Psalm 80:1-7

Psalm 80[a]

For the music director, according to the shushan-eduth style;[b] a psalm of Asaph.

80 O Shepherd of Israel, pay attention,
you who lead Joseph like a flock of sheep.
You who sit enthroned above the cherubim,[c] reveal your splendor.[d]
In the sight of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh reveal[e] your power.
Come and deliver us.[f]
O God, restore us.
Smile on us.[g] Then we will be delivered.[h]
O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies,[i]
how long will you remain angry at your people while they pray to you?[j]
You have given them tears as food;[k]
you have made them drink tears by the measure.[l]
You have made our neighbors dislike us,[m]
and our enemies insult us.
O God of Heaven’s Armies,[n] restore us.
Smile on us.[o] Then we will be delivered.[p]

Psalm 80:17-19

17 May you give support to the one you have chosen,[a]
to the one whom you raised up for yourself.[b]
18 Then we will not turn away from you.
Revive us and we will pray to you.[c]
19 O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies,[d] restore us.
Smile on us.[e] Then we will be delivered.[f]

2 Samuel 7:18-22

David Offers a Prayer to God

18 King David went in, sat before the Lord, and said, “Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family,[a] that you should have brought me to this point? 19 And you didn’t stop there, O Lord God! You have also spoken about the future of your servant’s family.[b] Is this your usual way of dealing with men,[c] O Sovereign Lord? 20 What more can David say to you? You have given your servant special recognition,[d] O Sovereign Lord! 21 For the sake of your promise and according to your purpose[e] you have done this great thing in order to reveal it to your servant.[f] 22 Therefore you are great, O Sovereign Lord, for there is none like you. There is no God besides you! What we have heard is true.[g]

Galatians 4:1-7

Now I mean that the heir, as long as he is a minor,[a] is no different from a slave, though he is the owner[b] of everything. But he is under guardians[c] and managers until the date set by his[d] father. So also we, when we were minors,[e] were enslaved under the basic forces[f] of the world. But when the appropriate time[g] had come, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we may be adopted as sons with full rights.[h] And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, who calls[i]Abba![j] Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are[k] a son, then you are also an heir through God.[l]
