On Pentecost The Spirit Empowers Them To Speak To The Crowd In Their Native Languages
2 And during the day of Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all together at the same place. 2 And suddenly a noise from heaven like of a violent rushing wind took place, and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And dividing[a] tongues as-if of fire appeared to them. And it sat on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues[b] as the Spirit was giving[c] the uttering[d] to them. 5 Now there were Jews dwelling in Jerusalem, reverent men from every nation under heaven. 6 And this sound having taken place, the crowd came together and was confounded[e] because they were each one hearing them speaking in his own language! 7 And they were astonished, and were marveling, saying “Behold, are not all these ones speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it we are each one hearing in our own language in which we were born?— 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites; and the ones dwelling-in Mesopotamia, and Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 and Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya toward Cyrene; and the Romans residing here; 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs; we are hearing them speaking the great[f] things of God in our own tongues”. 12 And they were all astonished and greatly-perplexed, saying one to another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others, while scoffing[g], were saying that “They have been filled with sweet-new-wine”.
Peter Declares To The Crowd That This Event Is God Pouring Out His Promised Spirit
14 And Peter, having stood with the eleven, raised his voice and declared[h] to them, “Men, Jews, and all the ones dwelling-in Jerusalem: let this be known to you, and pay-attention-to my words. 15 For these ones are not drunk, as you are assuming[i]. For it is the third[j] hour of the day. 16 But this is the thing having been spoken through the prophet Joel [in Joel 2:28-32]: 17 ‘And it shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour-out from[k] My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your older men will dream with dreams. 18 And[l] indeed upon My male-slaves and upon My female-slaves I will pour-out from My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth below— blood, and fire and a vapor of smoke. 20 The sun will be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious[m] day of the Lord comes. 21 And it shall be that everyone who calls-upon the name of the Lord will be saved’.
22 For we know that the whole creation is groaning-together and suffering-birthpains-together[a] until the present.
We Groan For The Redemption of Our Body
23 And not only creation, but also ourselves having the firstfruit[b] of the Spirit— we ourselves also are groaning within ourselves while eagerly-awaiting adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in hope. But hope being seen is not hope, for who hopes-for what he sees? 25 But since we hope-for what we do not see, we are eagerly-awaiting it with endurance.
The Spirit Groans To Help Us In Our Present Weakness
26 And similarly also[c] the Spirit helps our weakness. For we do not know what we should pray as we ought-to, but the Spirit Himself intercedes-for us with inexpressible[d] groanings. 27 And the One searching our hearts knows[e] what the mind of the Spirit is, because He is interceding for the saints in accordance with God.

26 When the Helper comes Whom I will send to you from the Father— the Spirit of truth, Who proceeds from the Father— that One will testify about Me. 27 And you also are going to be testifying, because you are [the ones] with Me from the beginning.
4 But I have spoken these things to you so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them.
It Is Better That I Go Away, For I Will Send You The Helper To Convict The World
“Now I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to the One having sent Me. And none of you is asking Me, ‘Where are You going?’, 6 but grief has filled your heart because I have spoken these things to you. 7 But I tell you the truth— it is better[a] for you that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And having come, that One will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment— 9 concerning sin, because[b] they are not believing in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because[c] I am going to the Father and you are no longer going to see Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
When The Helper Comes, He Will Guide You Into All Truth
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now. 13 But when that One, the Spirit of truth, comes— He will guide you in all the truth. For He will not speak from Himself, but He will speak whatever He will hear. And He will declare to you the things coming. 14 That One will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All[d] that the Father has is Mine. For this reason I said that He takes from what is Mine and will declare it to you.
