Psalm 61

Confidence in God’s Protection

For the music director, upon stringed instruments.[a] Of David.[b]

61 Hear, O God, my cry;
attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth[c] I call to you
when my heart grows faint.
You will lead me to a rock that is higher than I.
For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower from the enemy.
Let me reside in your tent forever.
Let me take refuge under the covering of your wings. Selah
For you, O God, you have heard my vows.
You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
You will add days to the days of the king,
his years like those of many generations.[d]
May he live[e] forever in the presence of God.
Appoint loyal love and faithfulness to preserve him.
So I will sing the praise of your name forever,
that I may fulfill[f] my vows daily.[g]

2 Kings 15:1-7

The Acts of Azariah (Uzziah) in Judah

15 In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah the son of Amaziah king of Judah began to reign. He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. He did right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that Amaziah his father had done. Only he did not remove the high places; the people were still sacrificing and burning incense on the high places. Yahweh struck the king, and he was infected with a skin disease until the day of his death. He lived in a separate house, while Jotham the son of the king was over the house, governing the people of the land. The remainder of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah? So Azariah slept with his ancestors,[a] and they buried him with his ancestors[b] in the city of David, and Jotham his son became king in his place.

Matthew 10:5-15

Jesus sent out these twelve, instructing them saying, “Do not go on the road to the Gentiles, and do not enter into a city of the Samaritans, but go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you[a] are going, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near!’ Heal those who are sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, expel demons. Freely you have received; freely give. Do not procure gold or silver or copper for your belts. 10 Do not take a traveler’s bag for the road, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff, for the worker is deserving of his provisions. 11 And into whatever town or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you depart. 12 And when you[b] enter into the house, greet it. 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whoever does not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you[c] are going out of that house or that[d] town. 15 Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town!
