Psalm 106:1-6

Psalm 106[a]

106 Praise the Lord.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
and his loyal love endures.[b]
Who can adequately recount the Lord’s mighty acts,
or relate all his praiseworthy deeds?[c]
How blessed are those who promote justice,
and do what is right all the time.
Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people.
Pay attention to me, when you deliver,
so I may see the prosperity[d] of your chosen ones,
rejoice along with your nation,[e]
and boast along with the people who belong to you.[f]
We have sinned like[g] our ancestors;[h]
we have done wrong, we have done evil.

Psalm 106:13-23

13 They quickly forgot what he had done;[a]
they did not wait for his instructions.[b]
14 In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving[c] for meat;[d]
they challenged God[e] in the wastelands.
15 He granted their request,
then struck them with a disease.[f]
16 In the camp they resented[g] Moses,
and Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest.[h]
17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan;
it engulfed[i] the group led by Abiram.[j]
18 Fire burned their group;
the flames scorched the wicked.[k]
19 They made an image of a calf at Horeb,
and worshiped a metal idol.
20 They traded their majestic God[l]
for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They rejected[m] the God who delivered them,
the one who performed great deeds in Egypt,
22 amazing feats in the land of Ham,
mighty acts[n] by the Red Sea.
23 He threatened[o] to destroy them,
but[p] Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him[q]
and turned back his destructive anger.[r]

Psalm 106:47-48

47 Deliver us, O Lord, our God.
Gather us from among the nations.
Then we will give thanks[a] to your holy name,
and boast about your praiseworthy deeds.[b]
48 The Lord God of Israel deserves praise,[c]
in the future and forevermore.[d]
Let all the people say, “We agree![e] Praise the Lord!”[f]

Deuteronomy 4:9-14

Reminder of the Horeb Covenant

Again, however, pay very careful attention,[a] lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren. 10 You[b] stood before the Lord your God at Horeb and he[c] said to me, “Assemble the people before me so that I can tell them my commands.[d] Then they will learn to revere me all the days they live in the land, and they will instruct their children.” 11 You approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, a mountain ablaze to the sky above it[e] and yet dark with a thick cloud.[f] 12 Then the Lord spoke to you from the middle of the fire; you heard speech but you could not see anything—only a voice was heard.[g] 13 And he revealed to you the covenant[h] he has commanded you to keep, the Ten Commandments,[i] writing them on two stone tablets. 14 Moreover, at that same time the Lord commanded me to teach you statutes and ordinances for you to keep in the land that you are about to enter and possess.[j]

1 Timothy 4:6-16

By pointing out such things to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, having nourished yourself on the words of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.[b] But reject those myths[c] fit only for the godless and gullible,[d] and train yourself for godliness. For “physical exercise[e] has some value, but godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.” This saying[f] is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance. 10 In fact this is why[g] we work hard and struggle,[h] because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people,[i] especially of believers.

11 Command and teach these things. 12 Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness,[j] and purity. 13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture,[k] to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift you have,[l] given to you and confirmed by prophetic words[m] when the elders laid hands on you.[n] 15 Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that everyone will see your progress.[o] 16 Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach.[p] Persevere in this, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
