Psalm 107:1-3

BOOK V

(Psalms 107–150)

Psalm 107

Thanksgiving for God’s Deliverance

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.(A)
Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim
that he has redeemed them from the power of the foe(B)
and has gathered them from the lands—
from the east and the west,
from the north and the south.(C)

Psalm 107:23-32

23 Others went to sea in ships,
conducting trade on the vast water.(A)
24 They saw the Lord’s works,
his wondrous works in the deep.(B)
25 He spoke and raised a stormy wind
that stirred up the waves of the sea.[a](C)
26 Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths,
their courage[b] melting away in anguish,(D)
27 they reeled and staggered like a drunkard,
and all their skill was useless.(E)
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.(F)
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.(G)
30 They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet.
Then he guided them to the harbor they longed for.(H)
31 Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(I)
32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.(J)

Job 37:1-13

37 My heart(A) pounds at this
and leaps from my chest.[a]
Just listen to his thunderous voice
and the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
He lets it loose beneath the entire sky;
his lightning to the ends(B) of the earth.

Then there comes a roaring sound;
God thunders(C) with his majestic voice.
He does not restrain the lightning
when his rumbling voice is heard.
God thunders wondrously with his voice;
he does great things that we cannot comprehend.
For he says to the snow,(D) “Fall to the earth,”
and the torrential rains, his mighty torrential rains,
serve as his sign to all mankind,
so that all men may know his work.
The wild animals enter their lairs
and stay in their dens.(E)
The windstorm comes from its chamber,
and the cold from the driving north winds.
10 Ice is formed by the breath of God,(F)
and watery expanses are frozen.
11 He saturates clouds with moisture;(G)
he scatters his lightning through them.
12 They swirl about,
turning round and round at his direction,
accomplishing everything he commands them
over the surface of the inhabited world.
13 He causes this to happen for punishment,
for his land, or for his faithful love.

Luke 21:25-28

The Coming of the Son of Man

25 “Then there will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars; (A) and there will be anguish on the earth among nations bewildered by the roaring of the sea and the waves.(B) 26 People will faint from fear and expectation of the things that are coming on the world, because the powers of the heavens will be shaken.(C) 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud(D) with power and great glory.(E) 28 But when these things begin to take place, stand up and lift your heads, because your redemption is near.”(F)
