Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
How Great Are Your Works, O Yahweh
A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath day.
92 It is (A)good to give thanks to Yahweh
And to (B)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To (C)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (D)faithfulness [a]by night,
3 [b]With the (E)ten-stringed lute and with the (F)harp,
[c]With resounding music [d]upon the (G)lyre.
4 For You, O Yahweh, have made me glad by [e]what You (H)have done,
I will (I)sing for joy at the (J)works of Your hands.
12 The (A)righteous man will [a]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (B)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (C)Planted in the house of Yahweh,
They will flourish (D)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [b](E)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [c]rich and fresh,
15 To [d]declare that (F)Yahweh is upright;
He is my (G)rock, and there is (H)no unrighteousness in Him.
26 (A)And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen. And he had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen and [a]stationed them in the (B)chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 27 (C)The king also made silver as plentiful as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the [b]Shephelah. 28 (D)Solomon’s import of horses was from Egypt and Kue; the king’s merchants procured them from Kue for a price. 29 And a chariot [c]was imported from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver, and a horse for 150; and [d]by the same means they exported them (E)to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of Aram.
Solomon Turns from Yahweh
11 Now (F)King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2 from the nations concerning which Yahweh had said to the sons of Israel, “(G)You shall not [e]go along with them, nor shall they [f]go along with you, for they will surely turn your heart away after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. 3 (H)And he had 700 wives—princesses—and 300 concubines, and his wives turned his heart away. 4 Now it happened at the time that Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and (I)his heart was not [g]wholly devoted to Yahweh his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 5 For Solomon went after (J)Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after [h](K)Milcom the detestable idol of the Ammonites. 6 And Solomon did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and did not follow Yahweh fully, as David his father had done. 7 Then Solomon built a high place for (L)Chemosh the detestable idol of Moab, on the mountain which is [i]east of Jerusalem, and for (M)Molech the detestable idol of the sons of Ammon. 8 Thus also he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
4 By faith (A)Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he (B)was approved as being righteous—God approving [a]his (C)gifts—and through [b]faith, though (D)he is dead, he still speaks. 5 By faith (E)Enoch was taken up so that he would not (F)see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for prior to being taken up, he was approved as being pleasing to God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who (G)draws near to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. 7 By faith (H)Noah, being (I)warned about (J)things not yet seen, [c](K)in reverence (L)prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of (M)the righteousness which is according to faith.
