Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
O Lord, Deliver My Life
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to (A)The Sheminith.[a] A Psalm of David.
6 O Lord, (B)rebuke me not in your anger,
nor (C)discipline me in your wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
(D)heal me, O Lord, (E)for my bones are troubled.
3 My (F)soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord—(G)how long?
4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
5 For in (H)death there is no remembrance of you;
in Sheol who will give you praise?
6 I am (I)weary with my (J)moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
7 My (K)eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes.
8 (L)Depart from me, all you (M)workers of evil,
for the Lord (N)has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my (O)plea;
the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
they shall (P)turn back and be put to shame in a moment.
16 “And now my soul is (A)poured out within me;
days of affliction have taken hold of me.
17 (B)The night (C)racks my bones,
and the pain that (D)gnaws me takes no rest.
18 With great force my garment is (E)disfigured;
it binds me about like the collar of my tunic.
19 God[a] has cast me into the mire,
and I have become like (F)dust and ashes.
20 I cry to you for help and you do not answer me;
I stand, and you only look at me.
21 You have (G)turned cruel to me;
with the might of your hand you (H)persecute me.
22 (I)You lift me up on the wind; you make me ride on it,
and you toss me about in the roar of the storm.
23 (J)For I know that you will bring me to death
and to the house appointed for (K)all living.
24 “Yet does not one in a (L)heap of ruins stretch out his hand,
and in his disaster cry for help?[b]
25 Did not I (M)weep for him whose day was hard?
Was not my soul grieved for the needy?
26 But (N)when I hoped for good, evil came,
and when I waited for light, (O)darkness came.
27 My inward parts are in turmoil and never still;
days of affliction (P)come to meet me.
28 I (Q)go about darkened, but not by the sun;
I stand up in (R)the assembly and cry for help.
29 I am a brother of (S)jackals
and a companion of (T)ostriches.
30 My (U)skin turns black and falls from me,
and my (V)bones burn with heat.
31 My (W)lyre is (X)turned to mourning,
and my (Y)pipe to the voice of those who weep.
Jesus Heals an Official's Son
46 So he came again to (A)Cana in Galilee, (B)where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus (C)had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, (D)“Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down (E)before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants[a] met him and told him that his son was recovering. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour[b] the fever left him.” 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, (F)and all his household. 54 (G)This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.
