Psalm 131

Psalm 131

A Childlike Spirit

A Davidic song of ascents.

Lord, my heart is not proud;
my eyes are not haughty.(A)
I do not get involved with things
too great or too difficult for me.(B)
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself
like a little weaned child with its mother;
I am like a little child.(C)

Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
both now and forever.(D)

Proverbs 12:22-28

22 Lying lips are detestable to the Lord,(A)
but faithful people are His delight.(B)

23 A shrewd person conceals knowledge,
but a foolish heart publicizes stupidity.(C)

24 The diligent hand will rule,
but laziness will lead to forced labor.(D)

25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down,
but a good word cheers it up.(E)

26 A righteous man is careful in dealing with his neighbor,[a]
but the ways of the wicked lead them astray.(F)

27 A lazy man doesn’t roast his game,(G)
but to a diligent man, his wealth is precious.(H)

28 There is life in the path of righteousness,
but another path leads to death.[b](I)

Philippians 2:19-24

Timothy and Epaphroditus

19 Now I hope in the Lord Jesus(A) to send Timothy(B) to you soon so that I also may be encouraged when I hear news about you. 20 For I have no one else like-minded who will genuinely care about your interests; 21 all seek their own interests,(C) not those of Jesus Christ.(D) 22 But you know his proven character, because he has served with me in the gospel ministry like a son with a father. 23 Therefore, I hope to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 24 I am convinced in the Lord that I myself will also come quickly.(E)
