Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
(A)in the sight of the children of mankind!
20 In (B)the cover of your presence you hide them
from the plots of men;
you (C)store them in your shelter
from the strife of tongues.
Repentance and Forgiveness
30 (A)“And (B)when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and (C)you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you, 2 and (D)return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, 3 then the Lord your God (E)will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will (F)gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you. 4 (G)If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there he will take you. 5 And the Lord your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it. (H)And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers.
6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, 7 and not all are children of Abraham (A)because they are his offspring, but (B)“Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” 8 This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but (C)the children of the promise are counted as offspring. 9 For this is what the promise said: (D)“About this time next year I will return, and Sarah shall have a son.” 10 And not only so, but (E)also when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac, 11 though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of (F)him who calls— 12 she was told, (G)“The older will serve the younger.” 13 As it is written, (H)“Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
