Do Not Forsake Me, O Lord
A Psalm of David, (A)for the memorial offering.
38 O Lord, (B)rebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath!
2 For your (C)arrows have sunk into me,
and your hand (D)has come down on me.
3 There is (E)no soundness in my flesh
because of your indignation;
there is no health in my (F)bones
because of my sin.
4 For my (G)iniquities have gone over my head;
like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds stink and fester
because of my foolishness,
6 I am (H)utterly bowed down and (I)prostrate;
all the day I (J)go about mourning.
7 For my sides are filled with burning,
and there is (K)no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am feeble and crushed;
I (L)groan because of the tumult of my heart.
9 O Lord, all my longing is before you;
my (M)sighing is not hidden from you.
10 My heart throbs; my strength fails me,
and (N)the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me.
11 My (O)friends and companions (P)stand aloof from my (Q)plague,
and my nearest kin (R)stand far off.
12 Those who seek my life (S)lay their snares;
those who seek my hurt (T)speak of ruin
and meditate (U)treachery all day long.
13 But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear,
like (V)a mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 I have become like a man who does not hear,
and in whose mouth are no (W)rebukes.
15 But for (X)you, O Lord, do I wait;
it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.
16 For I said, “Only (Y)let them not rejoice over me,
who (Z)boast against me when my (AA)foot slips!”
17 For I am (AB)ready to fall,
and my pain is ever before me.
18 I (AC)confess my iniquity;
I am (AD)sorry for my sin.
19 But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty,
and many are those who hate me (AE)wrongfully.
20 Those who (AF)render me evil for good
(AG)accuse me because I (AH)follow after good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Lord!
O my God, be not (AI)far from me!
22 (AJ)Make haste to help me,
O Lord, my (AK)salvation!
The Lord Will Be Gracious
18 Therefore the Lord (A)waits to be gracious to you,
and therefore he (B)exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
(C)blessed are all those who wait for him.
19 For a people shall dwell (D)in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. 20 And though the Lord give you the (E)bread of adversity and the (F)water of affliction, (G)yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. 21 (H)And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is (I)the way, walk in it”, when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. 22 Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. (J)You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them, “Be gone!”
23 (K)And he will give (L)rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and bread, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. (M)In that day your livestock will graze in large pastures, 24 and (N)the oxen and the donkeys that work the ground will eat seasoned fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. 25 And (O)on every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water, in the day of the great slaughter, (P)when the towers fall. 26 (Q)Moreover, the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day when (R)the Lord binds up (S)the brokenness of his people, and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow.
Paul and Barnabas at Lystra
8 Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was (A)crippled from birth and had never walked. 9 He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and (B)seeing that he had faith to be made well,[a] 10 said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he (C)sprang up and began walking. 11 And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, (D)“The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” 12 Barnabas they called (E)Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. 13 And the priest of (F)Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and (G)wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. 14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they (H)tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, 15 “Men, (I)why are you doing these things? We also are men, (J)of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that (K)you should turn from these (L)vain things to (M)a living God, (N)who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. 16 In past generations he (O)allowed all the nations (P)to walk in their own ways. 17 Yet (Q)he did not leave himself without witness, for he (R)did good by (S)giving you rains from heaven and (T)fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with (U)food and (V)gladness.” 18 Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them.
