Version
Psalm 41

David wrote this song for the music leader.

A prayer[a]

41 If someone is kind to poor people,
    God blesses him.
When he is in trouble,
    the Lord rescues him.
The Lord keeps him safe.
    The Lord saves his life!
God causes him to be happy
here in the land where he lives.
The Lord will not put him under the power of his enemies.
The Lord takes care of him
when he is ill in bed.
Whenever he is ill,
you will make him completely well again.

I said, ‘Lord be kind to me
    and forgive me.
I have done wrong things against you,
but please make me well again.’
My enemies say cruel things about me.
They say, ‘Surely he must die soon!
Then everyone will forget about him.’
When they come to see me,
they say that they are my friends.
But they think of ways to make me ashamed.
When they leave,
they tell everyone bad things about me.
All the people who hate me
    insult me to other people.
My enemies make plans to hurt me.
They say, ‘He has a dangerous disease.
He will never get up from his bed.’
Even my special friend has turned against me.
He was someone that I trusted.
I often ate food with him in my home.[b]

10 But you, Lord, please be kind to me.
Raise me up to be well again.
Then I can punish my enemies as they have punished me.[c]
11 They have not won against me,
so I know that you are pleased with me!
12 You continue to help me because I do what is right.
You will let me stay near to you for ever.

13 Let us all praise the Lord,
    who is Israel's great God!
Yes, praise him now and for ever!
Amen! Amen!

2 Chronicles 7:12-22

12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night. He said to Solomon, ‘I have heard your prayer. I have chosen this place as my temple where people can offer sacrifices to me.

13 Sometimes I may stop the rain falling from the sky. I may send locusts to destroy your crops. Or I may send a bad disease to hurt my people. 14 If that happens, my people who belong to me should be humble and they should pray to me. They should turn away from their sins and try to please me. Then I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sins and I will make their land successful again. 15 Now I will watch over this place. I will answer the prayers that people offer to me here. 16 I have chosen this temple to be my special home. People will worship me there for ever. I will always be there to watch over it.

17 But you must all continue to serve me well, as your father David did. Do everything that I have commanded you to do. Obey my rules and my laws. 18 If you do that, I will always cause one of your descendants to rule as king. That is what I promised to your father David when I said, “There will always be someone from your family to rule over Israel.”

19 But if any of you turn away from me, I will punish your people. I will do that if you do not obey the laws and rules that I have given to you. I will do it if you choose to serve and to worship other gods. 20 I will remove the people from the land that I have given to them. I will turn away from this temple that I have made a special place for my people to worship me. People from all the other nations will insult them and they will laugh at them. 21 This beautiful temple will became a heap of stones. Everyone who sees it will be very surprised. They will laugh about it! They will ask, “Why has the Lord destroyed this land and this temple?” 22 People will answer, “He has done it because they have turned away from the Lord, the God of their ancestors. He brought their ancestors out of Egypt. But now they have chosen to worship other gods and to serve them. That is why the Lord has caused this trouble to happen to them.” ’

3 John 2-8

My friend, I pray that God will help you to live well. I know that you are well in your spirit. I pray that your body will also be well. I was very happy when I heard news about you. Some Christian friends came here to tell me about you. They said that you are living in a good way. That is the way that God's true message tells us to live. I am happy when I hear that my children are living like that. When they obey God's true message, it makes me very happy.

Continue to help people

My friend, you do many things to help other believers. You help them even when they are strangers to you. This shows that you are serving God well. These men have spoken to the group of believers here about your love. Please continue to help them when they visit you. Give them the things that they need to continue on their journey. That will make God happy. They are travelling to different places to tell people about Jesus Christ. They do not accept any gifts from those people who are not Christians. Because of that, we Christians must help them with the things that they need. In this way we will be working together with them as they tell people the true message about Christ.
