Israel Exhorted

51 (A)Listen to me, you who (B)pursue righteousness,
Who seek the Lord:
Look to the (C)rock from which you were hewn
And to the [a]quarry from which you were dug.
“Look to (D)Abraham your father
And to Sarah who gave birth to you in pain;
When he (E)was but one I called him,
Then I blessed him and multiplied him.”
Indeed, (F)the Lord will comfort Zion;
He will comfort all her (G)waste places.
And her (H)wilderness He will make like (I)Eden,
And her desert like the (J)garden of the Lord;
(K)Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.

(L)Pay attention to Me, O My people,
And give ear to Me, O My [b]nation;
For a (M)law will go forth from Me,
And I will [c]set My (N)justice for a (O)light of the peoples.
“My (P)righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth,
And My (Q)arms will judge the peoples;
The (R)coastlands will wait for Me,
And for My (S)arm they will wait expectantly.
(T)Lift up your eyes to the sky,
Then look to the earth beneath;
For the (U)sky will vanish like smoke,
And the (V)earth will wear out like a garment
And its inhabitants will die [d]in like manner;
But My (W)salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not [e]wane.

Psalm 138

Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Favor.

A Psalm of David.

138 (A)I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing praises to You before the (B)gods.
I will bow down (C)toward Your holy temple
And (D)give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your [a]truth;
For You have (E)magnified Your [b]word [c]according to all Your name.
On the day I (F)called, You answered me;
You made me bold with (G)strength in my soul.

(H)All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O Lord,
When they have heard the words of Your mouth.
And they will (I)sing of the ways of the Lord,
For (J)great is the glory of the Lord.
For (K)though the Lord is exalted,
Yet He (L)regards the lowly,
But the (M)haughty He knows from afar.

Though I (N)walk in the midst of trouble, You will [d](O)revive me;
You will (P)stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will (Q)save me.
The Lord will (R)accomplish what concerns me;
Your (S)lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting;
(T)Do not forsake the (U)works of Your hands.

Romans 12:1-8

Dedicated Service

12 Therefore (A)I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to (B)present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, [a]acceptable to God, which is your [b]spiritual service of worship. And do not (C)be conformed to (D)this [c]world, but be transformed by the (E)renewing of your mind, so that you may [d](F)prove what the will of God is, that which is good and [e]acceptable and perfect.

For through (G)the grace given to me I say to everyone among you (H)not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to (I)each a measure of faith. For (J)just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, (K)who are many, are (L)one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that (M)differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if (N)prophecy, [f]according to the proportion of his faith; if [g](O)service, in his serving; or he who (P)teaches, in his teaching; or he who (Q)exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with [h](R)liberality; (S)he who [i]leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with (T)cheerfulness.

Matthew 16:13-20

Peter’s Confession of Christ

13 (A)Now when Jesus came into the district of (B)Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that (C)the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say (D)John the Baptist; and others, [a](E)Elijah; but still others, [b]Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15 He *said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are [c](F)the Christ, (G)the Son of (H)the living God.” 17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, (I)Simon [d]Barjona, because (J)flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 I also say to you that you are [e](K)Peter, and upon this [f]rock I will build My church; and the gates of (L)Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you (M)the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and (N)whatever you bind on earth [g]shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth [h]shall have been loosed in heaven.” 20 (O)Then He [i]warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was [j](P)the Christ.
