Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Pe
129 Your testimonies are (A)wonderful;
Therefore my soul (B)observes them.
130 The (C)unfolding of Your words gives light;
It gives (D)understanding to the simple.
131 I (E)opened my mouth wide and (F)panted,
For I (G)longed for Your commandments.
132 (H)Turn to me and be gracious to me,
According to Your judgment [a]for those who love Your name.
133 Establish my (I)steps in Your [b]word,
And do not let any wickedness (J)overpower me.
134 (K)Redeem me from the oppression of man,
That I may keep Your precepts.
135 (L)Make Your face shine upon Your slave,
And (M)teach me Your statutes.
136 My eyes [c]shed (N)streams of water,
Because they (O)do not keep Your law.
28 Then King David answered and said, “Call Bathsheba to me.” And she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king. 29 And the king swore and said, “(A)As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress, 30 surely as (B)I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Surely your son Solomon shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place’; I will surely do so this day.” 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her [a]face to the ground, and prostrated herself [b]before the king and said, “(C)May my lord King David live forever.”
32 Then King David said, “Call to me (D)Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” And they came into the king’s presence. 33 And the king said to them, “Take with you (E)the servants of your lord, and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to (F)Gihon. 34 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet shall (G)anoint him there as king over Israel and (H)blow the trumpet and say, ‘(I)Long live King Solomon!’ 35 Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne. And he shall be king in my place; for I have commanded him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.” 36 Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, “Amen! Thus may Yahweh, the God of my lord the king, say. 37 (J)As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon, and (K)make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David!”
14 I do not write these things to (A)shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved (B)children. 15 For if you were to have countless (C)tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in (D)Christ Jesus I (E)became your father through the (F)gospel. 16 Therefore I exhort you, be (G)imitators of me. 17 For this reason I (H)have sent to you (I)Timothy, who is my (J)beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and who will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, (K)just as I teach everywhere in every church. 18 Now some have become (L)puffed up, as though I were not (M)coming to you. 19 But I (N)will come to you soon, (O)if the Lord wills, and I shall know, not the [a]words of those who are (P)puffed up but their power. 20 For the kingdom of God does (Q)not consist in [b]words but in power.
