Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Blessed Is the One Whom You Choose
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
65 To You, there will be silence and praise in Zion, O God,
And to You the (A)vow will be paid.
2 O You who hear prayer,
To You (B)all flesh comes.
3 (C)Words of iniquity prevail against me;
As for our transgressions, You (D)atone for them.
4 How (E)blessed is the one whom You (F)choose and bring near to You
That he would dwell in Your courts.
We will be (G)satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.
5 By [a](H)fearsome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O (I)God of our salvation,
You who are the trust of all the (J)ends of the earth and of the farthest [b](K)sea;
6 Who (L)establishes the mountains by His strength,
Being (M)girded with might;
7 Who (N)stills the rumbling of the seas,
The rumbling of their waves,
And the (O)tumult of the peoples.
8 They who inhabit the (P)ends of the earth are in fear on account of Your signs;
You make [c]the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
9 You visit the earth and (A)cause it to overflow;
You greatly (B)enrich it;
The [a](C)stream of God is full of water;
You establish their (D)grain, for thus You establish [b]the earth.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
You smooth its ridges,
You soften it (E)with showers,
You bless its growth.
11 You crown the year [c]with Your (F)goodness,
And Your [d]paths (G)drip with richness.
12 (H)The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the (I)hills gird themselves with rejoicing.
13 The meadows are (J)clothed with flocks
And the valleys are (K)covered with grain;
They (L)make a loud shout, indeed, they sing.
6 You have heard; look at all this.
And you, will you not declare it?
I caused you to hear (A)new things from this time,
Even hidden things which you have not known.
7 They are created now and not long ago;
And before today you have not heard them,
Lest you say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’
8 Indeed, you have not (B)heard; indeed, you have not known.
Indeed, even from long ago your ear has not been open
Because I knew that you would deal very treacherously;
And you have been called a [a](C)transgressor from the [b]womb.
9 (D)For the sake of My name I (E)delay My anger,
And for My praise I restrain it for you,
In order not to cut you off.
10 Behold, I have refined you, but (F)not as silver;
I have tested you in the (G)furnace of affliction.
11 (H)For My own sake, for My own sake, I will act;
For how can My name be profaned?
And My (I)glory I will not give to another.
Paul’s Ministry Plans
14 But I myself am also convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of (A)goodness, having been filled with (B)all knowledge and being able also to admonish one another. 15 But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of (C)the grace that was given me [a]by God 16 for me to be (D)a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the (E)gospel of God, so that my (F)offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, having been sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore in Christ Jesus I have (G)reason for boasting in (H)things pertaining to God. 18 For I will not be bold to speak of anything [b]except what (I)Christ has brought about through me, [c]leading to the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, 19 in the power of [d](J)signs and wonders, (K)in the power of the Spirit; so that (L)from Jerusalem and all around as (M)far as Illyricum I have [e]fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20 And in this way I make it my ambition to (N)proclaim the gospel, not where Christ was already named, (O)so that I would not build on another man’s foundation; 21 but as it is written,
“(P)They who had no declaration of Him shall see,
And they who have not heard shall understand.”
