⁸ Jehovah is gracious and merciful; slow to anger, and of great loving-kindness.

⁹ Jehovah is good to all; and his tender mercies are over all his works.

¹⁰ All thy works shall praise thee, Jehovah, and thy saints shall bless thee.

¹¹ They shall tell of the glory of thy kingdom, and speak of thy power;

¹² To make known to the children of men his mighty acts, and the glorious splendour of his kingdom.

¹³ Thy kingdom is a kingdom of all ages, and thy dominion is throughout all generations.

¹⁴ Jehovah upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all that are bowed down.

1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

² Jehovah hath been very wroth with your fathers.

³ And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Return unto me, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts.

⁴ Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings; but they did not hearken nor attend unto me, saith Jehovah.

⁵ Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? And they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

7 Are ye ignorant, brethren, (for I speak to those knowing law,) that law rules over a man as long as he lives?

² For the married woman is bound by law to her husband so long as he is alive; but if the husband should die, she is clear from the law of the husband:

³ so then, the husband being alive, she shall be called an adulteress if she be to another man; but if the husband should die, she is free from the law, so as not to be an adulteress, though she be to another man.

⁴ So that, my brethren, *ye* also have been made dead to the law by the body of the Christ, to be to another, who has been raised up from among [the] dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.

⁵ For when we were in the flesh the passions of sins, which [were] by the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit to death;

⁶ but now we are clear from the law, having died in that in which we were held, so that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of letter.
