Psalm 105

God’s Faithfulness to Israel

O give thanks to the Lord; call on his name;
    make known his deeds among the peoples.(A)
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
    tell of all his wonderful works.(B)
Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.(C)
Seek the Lord and his strength;
    seek his presence continually.(D)
Remember the wonderful works he has done,
    his miracles and the judgments he has uttered,(E)
O offspring of his servant Abraham,[a]
    children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

He is the Lord our God;
    his judgments are in all the earth.(F)
He is mindful of his covenant forever,
    of the word that he commanded for a thousand generations,
the covenant that he made with Abraham,
    his sworn promise to Isaac,(G)
10 which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant,(H)
11 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
    as your portion for an inheritance.”(I)

Psalm 105:37-45

37 Then he brought Israel[a] out with silver and gold,
    and there was no one among their tribes who stumbled.(A)
38 Egypt was glad when they departed,
    for dread of them had fallen upon it.(B)
39 He spread a cloud for a covering
    and fire to give light by night.(C)
40 They asked, and he brought quails
    and gave them food from heaven in abundance.(D)
41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
    it flowed through the desert like a river.(E)
42 For he remembered his holy promise
    and Abraham, his servant.(F)

43 So he brought his people out with joy,
    his chosen ones with singing.
44 He gave them the lands of the nations,
    and they took possession of the wealth of the peoples,(G)
45 that they might keep his statutes
    and observe his laws.
Praise the Lord!(H)

1 Samuel 3:1-9

Samuel’s Calling and Prophetic Activity

Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread.(A)

At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room;(B) the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.(C) Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!”[a] and he said, “Here I am!”(D) and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down. The Lord called again, “Samuel!” Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.(E) The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

2 Thessalonians 2:13-3:5

Chosen for Salvation

13 But we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits[a] for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.(A) 14 For this purpose he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.(B) 15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter.(C)

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, 17 comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word.(D)

Request for Prayer

Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you,(E) and that we may be rescued from wicked and evil people, for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.[b](F) And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will go on doing the things that we command.(G) May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.
