Psalm 105

God’s Faithfulness to His People

Give thanks to Yahweh, call on His name;
proclaim His deeds among the peoples.(A)
Sing to Him, sing praise to Him;
tell about all His wonderful works!(B)
Honor His holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.(C)
Search for the Lord and for His strength;
seek His face always.(D)
Remember the wonderful works He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments He has pronounced,[a](E)
you offspring of Abraham His servant,
Jacob’s descendants—His chosen ones.(F)

He is the Lord our God;
His judgments govern the whole earth.(G)
He remembers His covenant forever,
the promise He ordained
for a thousand generations(H)
the covenant He made with Abraham,
swore[b] to Isaac,(I)
10 and confirmed to Jacob as a decree
and to Israel as an everlasting covenant:(J)
11 “I will give the land of Canaan to you
as your inherited portion.”(K)

Psalm 105:37-45

37 Then He brought Israel out with silver and gold,
and no one among His tribes stumbled.(A)
38 Egypt was glad when they left,
for the dread of Israel[a] had fallen on them.(B)
39 He spread a cloud as a covering
and gave a fire to light up the night.(C)
40 They asked, and He brought quail
and satisfied them with bread from heaven.(D)
41 He opened a rock, and water gushed out;
it flowed like a stream in the desert.(E)
42 For He remembered His holy promise
to Abraham His servant.(F)
43 He brought His people out with rejoicing,
His chosen ones with shouts of joy.(G)
44 He gave them the lands of the nations,
and they inherited
what other peoples had worked for.(H)

45 All this happened
so that they might keep His statutes
and obey His instructions.(I)
Hallelujah!

1 Samuel 3:1-9

Samuel’s Call

The boy Samuel served the Lord in Eli’s presence.(A) In those days the word of the Lord was rare and prophetic visions were not widespread.(B)

One day Eli, whose eyesight was failing,(C) was lying in his room. Before the lamp of God had gone out,(D) Samuel was lying down in the tabernacle of the Lord, where the ark of God was located.

Then the Lord called Samuel,[a] and he answered, “Here I am.” He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

“I didn’t call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.

Once again the Lord called, “Samuel!”

Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

“I didn’t call, my son,” he replied. “Go back and lie down.”

Now Samuel had not yet experienced the Lord, because the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. Once again, for the third time, the Lord called Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the boy. He told Samuel, “Go and lie down. If He calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

2 Thessalonians 2:13-3:5

Stand Firm

13 But we must always thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning[a] God has chosen(A) you for salvation through sanctification(B) by the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory(C) of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brothers, stand firm(D) and hold to the traditions you were taught,(E) either by our message or by our letter.

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved(F) us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.

Pray for Us

Finally, brothers, pray for us that the Lord’s message may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you,(G) and that we may be delivered(H) from wicked and evil men, for not all have faith.[b] But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen and guard you from the evil one.(I) We have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do what we command. May the Lord direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s endurance.(J)
