The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

And when (A)the day of Pentecost [a]had fully come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing (B)wind, and it filled (C)the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues like fire [b](D)distributing themselves, and [c]they [d]rested on each one of them. And they were all (E)filled with the Holy Spirit and began to (F)speak with other [e]tongues, as the Spirit was giving them [f]utterance.

Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, (G)devout men from every nation under heaven. And when (H)this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own [g]language. (I)So they were astounded and marveling, saying, “Behold, are not all these who are speaking (J)Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own [h]language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and (K)Cappadocia, (L)Pontus and [i](M)Asia, 10 (N)Phrygia and (O)Pamphylia, Egypt and the district of Libya around (P)Cyrene, and [j](Q)visitors from Rome, both Jews and [k](R)proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And (S)they all continued in astonishment and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others, mocking, were saying, “(T)They are full of new wine.”

Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost

14 But Peter, [l]taking his stand with (U)the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, (V)for it is the [m]third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 (W)And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
That I will pour out My Spirit on all [n]mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams;
18 Even on My male slaves and female slaves,
I will in those days pour out My Spirit
And they shall prophesy.
19 And I will put wonders in the sky above
And signs on the earth below,
Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned into darkness
And the moon into blood,
Before the great and awesome day of the [o]Lord comes.
21 And it will be that (X)everyone who calls on the name of the [p]Lord will be saved.’

Numbers 11:24-30

24 So Moses went out and (A)told the people the words of Yahweh. Also, he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and had them stand around the tent. 25 (B)Then Yahweh came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again.

26 But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the [a]other Medad. And (C)the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp. 27 So a young man ran and told Moses and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” 28 Then (D)Joshua the son of Nun, the attendant of Moses from his youth, said, “(E)Moses, my lord, restrain them.” 29 But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? (F)Would that all the people of Yahweh were prophets, that Yahweh would put His Spirit upon them!” 30 Then Moses [b]returned to the camp, both he and the elders of Israel.

Psalm 104:24-34

24 How (A)numerous are Your works, O Yahweh!
[a]In (B)wisdom You have made them all;
The (C)earth is full of Your [b]possessions.
25 This is the (D)sea, great and [c]broad,
There the creeping things are without number,
Creatures both small and great.
26 There the (E)ships move along,
And [d](F)Leviathan, which You have formed to play in it.

27 They all (G)wait for You
To (H)give them their food in [e]due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You (I)open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 You (J)hide Your face, they are dismayed;
You (K)take away their [f]spirit, they breathe their last
And (L)return to their dust.
30 You send forth Your [g](M)Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

31 Let the (N)glory of Yahweh endure forever;
Let Yahweh (O)be glad in His works;
32 [h]He (P)looks at the earth, and it (Q)trembles;
He (R)touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 [i]I will sing to Yahweh (S)throughout my life;
[j]I will (T)sing praise to my God [k]while I have my being.
34 Let my (U)musing be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall (V)be glad in Yahweh.

Psalm 104:35

35 Let sinners be (A)consumed from the earth
And let the (B)wicked be no more.
(C)Bless Yahweh, O my soul.
[a](D)Praise Yah!

1 Corinthians 12:3-13

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking [a](A)by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is [b](B)accursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is (C)Lord,” except [c](D)by the Holy Spirit.

Now there are (E)varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. And there are varieties of workings, but the same (F)God who works everything in everyone. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit (G)for what is profitable. For to one is given the word of (H)wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of (I)knowledge according to the same Spirit; to someone else (J)faith [d]by the same Spirit, and to another (K)gifts of [e]healing [f]by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the workings of (L)miracles, and to another (M)prophecy, and to another the [g](N)distinguishing of spirits, to someone else various (O)kinds of tongues, and to another the [h](P)translation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, (Q)distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

12 For even (R)as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, (S)so also is Christ. 13 For also [i](T)by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether (U)Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to (V)drink of one Spirit.

John 20:19-23

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

19 So while it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and while the doors were shut where the disciples were, for (A)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and *said to them, [a](B)Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, (C)He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then (D)rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, (E)Peace be with you; (F)as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He (G)breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 (H)If you forgive the sins of any, their sins [b]have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”

John 7:37-39

37 Now on (A)the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, [a](B)If anyone is thirsty, [b]let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, (C)as the Scripture said, ‘From [c]his innermost being will flow rivers of (D)living water.’” 39 But this He spoke (E)of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were going to receive; for (F)the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet (G)glorified.
