Psalm 23

Yahweh Is My Shepherd

A Psalm of David.

23 Yahweh is my (A)shepherd,
I [a]shall (B)not want.
He makes me lie down in (C)green pastures;
He (D)leads me beside [b](E)quiet waters.
He (F)restores my soul;
He (G)guides me in the [c](H)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Even though I (I)walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I (J)fear no [e]evil, for (K)You are with me;
Your (L)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You (M)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have (N)anointed my head with oil;
My (O)cup overflows.
[g]Surely (P)goodness and lovingkindness will [h]pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will [i](Q)dwell in the house of Yahweh [j]forever.

Exodus 2:15-25

15 And Pharaoh heard of this matter, so he sought to kill Moses. But (A)Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he [a]sat down (B)by a well. 16 Now (C)the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and (D)they came and drew water and filled the troughs to give water to their father’s flock to drink. 17 Then the shepherds came and drove them away, but (E)Moses rose up and saved them and gave water to their flock to drink. 18 Then they came to (F)Reuel their father, and he said, “Why have you come back so soon today?” 19 So they said, “An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he actually even drew the water for us and gave water to the flock to drink.” 20 And he said to his daughters, “Where is he then? Why is it that you have left the man behind? Call him so that he may eat bread.” 21 (G)And Moses was willing to settle down with the man, and he gave his daughter (H)Zipporah to Moses. 22 Then she gave birth to (I)a son, and he named him [b]Gershom, for he said, “I have been (J)a [c]sojourner in a foreign land.”

God Hears Israel’s Groaning

23 Now it happened in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel (K)sighed because of the slavery, and they cried out; and (L)their cry for help because of their slavery rose up to God. 24 So (M)God heard their groaning; and God remembered (N)His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 25 (O)And God saw the sons of Israel, and God knew them.

1 Peter 2:9-12

But you are (A)a chosen family, a royal (B)priesthood, a (C)holy nation, (D)a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you (E)out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 (F)for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

11 (G)Beloved, (H)I urge you as (I)sojourners and exiles to abstain from (J)fleshly lusts which wage (K)war against the soul, 12 (L)by keeping your conduct excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing which they (M)slander you as evildoers, they may [a]because of your good works, as they observe them, (N)glorify God (O)in the day of [b]visitation.
