¹³ Then God said to Abram, “Know for certain that ^(A)your seed will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, ^[a]and ^(B)they will be enslaved and mistreated ^(C)four hundred years. ¹⁴ But I will also judge the nation to whom they are enslaved, and afterward they will come out ^(D)with ^[b]many possessions. ¹⁵ As for you, ^(E)you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. ¹⁶ Then in ^(F)the fourth generation they will return here, for ^(G)the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.”

¹⁷ Now it happened that the sun had set, and it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which ^(H)passed between these pieces. ¹⁸ On that day Yahweh cut a covenant with Abram, saying,

^19 (K)the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.”

¹⁶ and said, “^(A)By Myself I have sworn, declares Yahweh, because you have done this thing and have not spared your son, your only one, ¹⁷ indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly ^(B)multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as ^(C)the sand which is on the seashore; and ^(D)your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. ^18 (E)In your ^[a]seed all the nations of the earth shall ^[b]be blessed, because you have ^(F)listened to My voice.”

² And Yahweh ^(A)appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; ^(B)dwell in the land of which I shall tell you. ³ Sojourn in this land, and ^(C)I will be with you and ^(D)bless you, for ^(E)to you and to your seed I will give all these lands, and I will establish ^(F)the oath which I swore to your father Abraham. ^4 (G)And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and I will give your seed all these lands; and ^(H)by your seed all the nations of the earth ^[a]shall be blessed; ⁵ because Abraham ^(I)listened to My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”

¹³ And behold, ^(A)Yahweh stood ^[a]above it and said, “I am Yahweh, ^(B)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it ^(C)to you and to ^(D)your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed will also be like ^(E)the dust of the earth, and you will ^[b]spread out ^(F)to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and ^(G)in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. ¹⁵ Behold, ^(H)I am with you and ^(I)will keep you wherever you go. And ^(J)I will bring you back to this land; for ^(K)I will not forsake you until I have done what I have ^[c]promised you.”
