Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Hope of the Faithful, and the Messiah’s Victory
A (A)Michtam of David.
16 Preserve[a] me, O God, for in You I put my trust.
2 O my soul, you have said to the Lord,
“You are my Lord,
(B)My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
3 As for the saints who are on the earth,
“They are the excellent ones, in (C)whom is all my delight.”
4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god;
Their drink offerings of (D)blood I will not offer,
(E)Nor take up their names on my lips.
5 O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You [b]maintain my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Yes, I have a good inheritance.
7 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My [c]heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
8 (F)I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will [d]rest in hope.
10 (G)For You will not leave my soul in [e]Sheol,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to [f]see corruption.
11 You will show me the (H)path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
The Shulamite to Her Beloved
6 (A)Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death,
(B)Jealousy as [a]cruel as [b]the grave;
Its flames are flames of fire,
[c]A most vehement flame.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor can the floods drown it.
(C)If a man would give for love
All the wealth of his house,
It would be utterly despised.
Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord
11 (A)But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”
She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”
14 (B)Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and (C)did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”
She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said to her, (D)“Mary!”
She turned and said to [a]Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet (E)ascended to My Father; but go to (F)My brethren and say to them, (G)‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to (H)My God and your God.’ ”
18 (I)Mary Magdalene came and told the [b]disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.
The Apostles Commissioned(J)
19 (K)Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were [c]assembled, for (L)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, (M)“Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He (N)showed them His hands and His side. (O)Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
