Psalm 143

My Soul Reaches for You

A Psalm of David.

143 O Yahweh, hear my prayer,
(A)Give ear to my supplications!
Answer me in Your (B)faithfulness, in Your (C)righteousness!
And (D)do not enter into judgment with Your slave,
For (E)no one living is righteous in Your sight.
For the enemy has pursued my soul;
He has crushed my life (F)to the ground;
He (G)has made me inhabit dark places, like those who have long been dead.
Therefore (H)my spirit was faint within me;
My heart was [a](I)appalled within me.

I (J)remember the days of old;
I (K)meditate on all You have done;
I (L)muse on the work of Your hands.
I (M)stretch out my hands to You;
My (N)soul reaches for You like a weary land. [b]Selah.

(O)Answer me quickly, O Yahweh, my (P)spirit wastes away;
(Q)Do not hide Your face from me,
Or I will become like (R)those who go down to the pit.
Cause me to hear Your (S)lovingkindness (T)in the morning;
For I trust (U)in You;
Cause me to know the (V)way in which I should walk;
For to You I (W)lift up my soul.
(X)Deliver me from my enemies, O Yahweh,
I have concealed myself in You.

10 (Y)Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Let (Z)Your good Spirit (AA)lead me on level [c]ground.
11 (AB)For the sake of Your name, O Yahweh, (AC)revive me.
(AD)In Your righteousness bring my soul out of distress.
12 And in Your lovingkindness, [d](AE)cut off my enemies
And cause all those who assail my soul to (AF)perish,
For (AG)I am Your slave.

2 Kings 4:18-37

A Dead Boy Opens His Eyes

18 Then the child was grown. And the day came that he went out to his father to the reapers. 19 And he said to his father, “My head, my head.” And he said to [a]his young man, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 Then he carried him and brought him to his mother, and he sat on her knees until noon, and then died. 21 Then she went up and (A)laid him on the bed of (B)the man of God and shut the door behind him and went out. 22 And she called to her husband and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and return.” 23 And he said, “Why will you go to him today? It is neither (C)new moon nor sabbath.” And she said, “It is well.” 24 Then she saddled a donkey and said to her young man, “Drive and go; do not hold back the pace of the ride for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she went and came to the man of God to (D)Mount Carmel.

Now it happened that when the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to Gehazi his young man, “Behold, [b]there is the Shunammite. 26 Please run now to meet her and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’” And she [c]answered, “It is well.” 27 Then she came to the man of God (E)to the hill and took hold of his feet. And Gehazi came near to push her away; but the man of God said, “Let her alone, for her soul is bitter within her; and Yahweh has hidden it from me and has not told me.” 28 Then she said, “Did I ask for a son from my lord? Did I not say, ‘(F)Do not deceive me’?”

29 Then he said to Gehazi, “(G)Gird up your loins and (H)take my staff in your hand, and go; if you meet anyone, do not [d](I)greet him, and if anyone [e]greets you, do not answer him; and (J)lay my staff on the boy’s face.” 30 But the mother of the boy said, “(K)As Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, I will not forsake you.” And he arose and followed her. 31 Now Gehazi passed on before them and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or [f]response. So he returned to meet him and told him, saying, “The boy (L)has not awakened.”

32 Then Elisha came into the house, and behold, the boy was dead and laid on his bed. 33 So he entered and (M)shut the door behind them both and prayed to Yahweh. 34 And (N)he went up and lay on the child and put his mouth on his mouth and his eyes on his eyes and his hands on his hands, and he stretched himself on him; and the flesh of the child became warm. 35 Then he returned and walked in the house once back and forth, and went up and (O)stretched himself on him; and the boy sneezed seven times and the boy opened his eyes. 36 Then he called Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite.” So he called her. Then she came in to him, and he said, “Take up your son.” 37 Then she came in and fell at his feet and bowed herself to the ground, and (P)she took up her son and went out.

Ephesians 2:1-10

By Grace Through Faith

And you [a]were (A)dead [b]in your transgressions and sins, in which you (B)formerly walked according to the [c]course of (C)this world, according to (D)the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now working in (E)the sons of disobedience, among whom we all also (F)formerly conducted ourselves in (G)the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the [d]mind, and were (H)by nature (I)children of wrath, (J)even as the rest. But God, being (K)rich in mercy because of (L)His great love with which He loved us, even when we were (M)dead [e]in our transgressions, made us alive together [f]with Christ—(N)by grace you have been saved— and (O)raised us up with Him, and (P)seated us with Him in (Q)the heavenly places in (R)Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing (S)riches of His grace in (T)kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For (U)by grace you have been saved (V)through faith, and [g]this not of yourselves, it is (W)the gift of God; (X)not of works, so that (Y)no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, (Z)created in (AA)Christ Jesus for (AB)good works, which God (AC)prepared beforehand so that we would (AD)walk in them.
