Psalm 95

A Call to Worship and Obey

95 Come, let us sing for joy to Yahweh;
let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving;
with songs let us shout joyfully to him.
For Yahweh is the[a] great God,
and the great king over all gods,
in whose hand are the unexplored places[b] of the earth,
and the heights of the mountains are his,
to whom belongs the sea that he made, [c]
and the dry land that his hands formed.
Come in, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before Yahweh, our maker.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture
and the sheep of his hand.
Today[d] if you will hear his voice:[e]
“Do not harden your heart as at Meribah,
as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,
when your ancestors[f] tried me.
They put me to the test,
even though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation,
and said, ‘They are a people whose heart wanders.
And my ways they do not know.’
11 Therefore I swore in my anger,
‘They shall surely not enter into my rest.’”

Exodus 16:9-21

And Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the community of the Israelites,[a] ‘Come near before Yahweh because he has heard your grumblings.’”

10 And at the moment of Aaron’s speaking to all the community of the Israelites,[b] they turned to the desert, and just then[c] the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud. 11 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “I have heard the grumblings of the Israelites.[d] Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight[e] you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be full with bread, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God.’”

13 And so it was, in the evening, the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning, a layer of dew was all around the camp. 14 And the layer of dew came up, and there[f] on the face of the desert was a fine granular substance, fine like frost on the ground. 15 And the Israelites[g] saw, and they said to each other,[h] “What is this?” because they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “That is the bread that Yahweh has given to you as food. 16 This is the word that Yahweh commanded, ‘Gather from it, each according to what he can eat,[i] an omer per person[j] according to the number of you.[k] You each shall take enough for whoever is in his tent.’”

17 And the Israelites[l] did so, and they gathered, some more and some less. 18 And when they measured with the omer, the one gathering more had no surplus, and the one gathering less had no lack; they gathered each according to what he could eat.[m] 19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it until morning.” 20 But they did not listen to Moses. Some people[n] left some of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. 21 And they gathered it morning by morning, each according to what he could eat,[o] and it melted when the sun was hot.[p]

Ephesians 2:11-22

Jewish and Gentile Believers United in Christ

11 Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, the so-called uncircumcision by the so-called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands, 12 that you were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope, and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you, the ones who once were far away, have become near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of the partition, the enmity, in his flesh, 15 invalidating the law of commandments in ordinances, in order that he might create the two in himself into one new man, thus[a] making peace, 16 and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, killing the enmity in himself.[b] 17 And coming, he proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to the ones who were near, 18 because through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 Consequently, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,[c] 21 in whom the whole building, joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are built up together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.[d]
