Version
Psalm 27:7-14

Lord, hear my voice when I call;
be gracious to me and answer me.(A)
My heart says this about You,
“You[a] are to seek My face.”
Lord, I will seek Your face.(B)
Do not hide Your face from me;(C)
do not turn Your servant away in anger.(D)
You have been my helper;(E)
do not leave me or abandon me,
God of my salvation.
10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord cares for me.(F)

11 Because of my adversaries,
show me Your way, Lord,
and lead me on a level path.(G)
12 Do not give me over to the will of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing violence.(H)

13 I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness
in the land of the living.(I)
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong[b] and courageous.(J)
Wait for the Lord.(K)

Genesis 49:1-2

Jacob’s Last Words

49 Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather around, and I will tell you what will happen to you in the days to come.[a](A)

Come together and listen, sons of Jacob;
listen to your father Israel:

Genesis 49:8-13

Judah, your brothers will praise you.(A)
Your hand will be on the necks of your enemies;
your father’s sons will bow down to you.(B)
Judah is a young lion(C)
my son, you return from the kill.
He crouches; he lies down like a lion
or a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah
or the staff from between his feet
until He whose right it is comes[a](D)
and the obedience of the peoples belongs to Him.(E)
11 He ties his donkey to a vine,
and the colt of his donkey to the choice vine.
He washes his clothes in wine
and his robes in the blood of grapes.
12 His eyes are darker than wine,
and his teeth are whiter than milk.

13 Zebulun will live by the seashore
and will be a harbor for ships,
and his territory will be next to Sidon.(F)

Genesis 49:21-26

21 Naphtali is a doe set free
that bears beautiful fawns.(A)

22 Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine beside a spring;
its branches[a] climb over the wall.[b]
23 The archers attacked him,
shot at him, and were hostile toward him.
24 Yet his bow remained steady,
and his strong[c] arms were made agile
by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob,(B)
by the name of[d] the Shepherd,(C) the Rock of Israel,(D)
25 by the God of your father who helps you,
and by the Almighty who blesses you
with blessings of the heavens above,
blessings of the deep that lies below,
and blessings of the breasts and the womb.
26 The blessings of your father excel
the blessings of my ancestors[e]
and[f] the bounty of the eternal hills.[g](E)
May they rest on the head of Joseph,
on the crown of the prince of his brothers.

Luke 1:67-79

Zechariah’s Prophecy

67 Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit(A) and prophesied:(B)

68 Praise the Lord, the God of Israel,(C)
because He has visited
and provided redemption for His people.(D)
69 He has raised up a horn of salvation[a] for us(E)
in the house of His servant David,(F)
70 just as He spoke by the mouth
of His holy prophets in ancient times;(G)
71 salvation from our enemies
and from the clutches[b] of those who hate us.
72 He has dealt mercifully with our fathers(H)
and remembered His holy covenant(I)
73 the oath that He swore to our father Abraham.(J)
He has given us the privilege,
74 since we have been rescued
from our enemies’ clutches,[c]
to serve Him without fear
75 in holiness and righteousness
in His presence all our days.
76 And child, you will be called
a prophet of the Most High,(K)
for you will go before the Lord
to prepare His ways,(L)
77 to give His people knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins.(M)
78 Because of our God’s merciful compassion,
the Dawn from on high(N) will visit us
79 to shine on those who live in darkness
and the shadow of death,(O)
to guide our feet into the way of peace.
