Psalm 40:1-11

Psalm 40(A)

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

I waited patiently for the Lord,
    and He turned to me, and heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
    out of the miry clay,
and set my feet on a rock,
    and established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth,
    even praise to our God;
many will see it, and fear,
    and will trust in the Lord.

Blessed is the man
    who places trust in the Lord,
but does not turn toward the proud,
    nor those falling away to falsehood.
O Lord my God,
    You have done many wonderful works,
and Your thoughts toward us
    cannot be compared;
if I would declare and speak of them,
    they are more than can be numbered.

Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;
    You have opened up my ears to listen.
Burnt offering and sin offering
    You have not required.
Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
    in the scroll of the book it is written of me,
I delight to do Your will, O my God;
    Your law is within my inward parts.”

I have proclaimed righteousness in the great congregation;
    I have not held back my lips,
    O Lord, You know.
10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
    I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth
    from the great congregation.

11 Do not withhold Your compassion from me, O Lord;
    may Your lovingkindness and Your truth always guard me.

Isaiah 22:15-25

15 Thus says the Lord God of Hosts:

Come, go to this treasurer,
    even to Shebna, who is over the royal household, and say:
16 What right do you have here? And whom do you have here
    that you have dug out for yourself a tomb here,
as he who hews out for himself a tomb on high,
    and who cuts a habitation for himself in a rock?

17 Indeed, the Lord is about to hurl you headlong, O man;
    He is about to seize you firmly.
18 He will surely violently turn
    and toss you like a ball into a large country;
there you shall die,
    and there the chariots of your glory shall be
    the shame of your lord’s house.
19 I will drive you from your office
    and pull you down from your station.

20 In that day I will call My servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah. 21 And I will clothe him with your robe and tie him securely with your sash. And I will entrust him with your authority, and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. 22 The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder. Then he shall open, and no one shall shut. And he shall shut, and no one shall open. 23 I will fasten him as a nail in a firm place, and he shall become a glorious throne to his father’s house. 24 They shall hang on him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the bowls to all the jars.

25 In that day, says the Lord of Hosts, the nail that is fastened in the firm place shall be removed, and be cut down and fall. And the load that was on it shall be cut off, for the Lord has spoken it.

Galatians 1:6-12

There Is No Other Gospel

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different gospel, which is not a gospel. But there are some who trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ. Although if we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel to you than the one we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so I say now again: If anyone preaches any other gospel to you than the one you have received, let him be accursed.

10 For am I now seeking the approval of men or of God? Or am I trying to please men? For if I were still trying to please men, I would not be the servant of Christ.

How Paul Became an Apostle

11 But I reveal to you, brothers, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, neither was I taught it, except by a revelation of Jesus Christ.
