Psalm 24

The King of Glory

A Davidic psalm.

The earth and everything in it,
the world and its inhabitants,
belong to the Lord;(A)
for He laid its foundation on the seas
and established it on the rivers.(B)

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in His holy place?(C)
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,(D)
who has not set his mind[a] on what is false,(E)
and who has not sworn deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord,(F)
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.(G)
Such is the generation of those who seek Him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.[b](H)Selah

Lift up your heads, you gates!
Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.(I)
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.(J)
Lift up your heads, you gates!
Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.
10 Who is He, this King of glory?
The Lord of Hosts,
He is the King of glory.(K)Selah

Isaiah 60:8-16

Who are these who fly like a cloud,
like doves to their shelters?(A)
Yes, the islands will wait for Me(B)
with the ships of Tarshish in the lead,(C)
to bring your children from far away,(D)
their silver and gold with them,
for the honor of the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel,(E)
who has glorified you.(F)
10 Foreigners will build up your walls,(G)
and their kings will serve you.(H)
Although I struck you in My wrath,
yet I will show mercy to you with My favor.(I)
11 Your gates will always be open;
they will never be shut day or night
so that the wealth of the nations
may be brought into you,(J)
with their kings being led in procession.
12 For the nation and the kingdom
that will not serve you will perish;
those nations will be annihilated.(K)
13 The glory of Lebanon will come to you(L)
its pine, fir, and cypress together(M)
to beautify the place of My sanctuary,
and I will glorify My dwelling place.[a]
14 The sons of your oppressors
will come and bow down to you;(N)
all who reviled you
will fall facedown at your feet.(O)
They will call you the City of the Lord,
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.(P)
15 Instead of your being deserted and hated,
with no one passing through,(Q)
I will make you an object of eternal pride,(R)
a joy from age to age.
16 You will nurse on the milk of nations,
and nurse at the breast of kings;(S)
you will know that I, Yahweh, am your Savior(T)
and Redeemer,(U) the Mighty One of Jacob.(V)

Luke 1:1-4

The Dedication to Theophilus

Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled[a] among us,(A) just as the original eyewitnesses(B) and servants of the word(C) handed them down to us. It also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence, most honorable(D) Theophilus,(E) so that you may know the certainty of the things about which you have been instructed.[b](F)
