Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The King of Glory Entering Zion.
A Psalm of David.
24 The (A)earth is the Lord’s, and [a]all it contains,
The (B)world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has (C)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
3 Who may (D)ascend into the (E)hill of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy (F)place?
4 He who has (G)clean hands and a (H)pure heart,
Who has not (I)lifted up his soul [b]to falsehood
And has not (J)sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive a (K)blessing from the Lord
And [c](L)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 [d]This is the generation of those who (M)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—even Jacob. [e]Selah.
7 (N)Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, O [f]ancient doors,
That the King of (O)glory may come in!
8 Who is the King of glory?
The Lord (P)strong and mighty,
The Lord (Q)mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift them up, O [g]ancient doors,
That the King of (R)glory may come in!
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of (S)hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah.
18 “As I live,” declares the (A)King
Whose name is the Lord of hosts,
“Surely one shall come who looms up like (B)Tabor among the mountains,
Or like (C)Carmel by the sea.
19 “Make your baggage ready for (D)exile,
O (E)daughter dwelling in Egypt,
For (F)Memphis will become a desolation;
It will even be burned down and [a]bereft of inhabitants.
20 “Egypt is a pretty (G)heifer,
But a [b]horsefly is coming (H)from the north—it is coming!
21 “Also her (I)mercenaries in her midst
Are like [c]fattened (J)calves,
For even they too have turned back and have fled away together;
They did not stand their ground.
For the day of their calamity has come upon them,
The time of their (K)punishment.
22 “Its sound moves along like a serpent;
For they move on [d]like an army
And come to her as woodcutters with axes.
23 “They have cut down her (L)forest,” declares the Lord;
“Surely it will no more be found,
Even though [e]they are now more numerous than (M)locusts
And are without number.
24 “The daughter of Egypt has been put to shame,
Given over to the [f]power of the (N)people of the north.”
25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says, “Behold, I am going to punish Amon of (O)Thebes, and (P)Pharaoh, and Egypt along with her (Q)gods and her kings, even Pharaoh and those who (R)trust in him. 26 I shall give them over to the [g]power of those who are (S)seeking their lives, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of his [h]officers. (T)Afterwards, however, it will be inhabited as in the days of old,” declares the Lord.
27 “But as for you, O Jacob My servant, (U)do not fear,
Nor be dismayed, O Israel!
For, see, I am going to (V)save you from afar,
And your descendants from the land of their captivity;
And Jacob will return and be (W)undisturbed
And secure, with no one making him tremble.
28 “O Jacob My servant, do not fear,” declares the Lord,
“For (X)I am with you.
For I will make a full end of all the nations
Where I have driven you,
Yet I will (Y)not make a full end of you;
But I will (Z)correct you properly
And by no means leave you unpunished.”
5 And (A)He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am (B)making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for (C)these words are faithful and true.” 6 Then He said to me, “[a](D)It is done. I am the (E)Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. (F)I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the (G)water of life without cost. 7 (H)He who overcomes will inherit these things, and (I)I will be his God and he will be My son. 8 (J)But for the cowardly and [b]unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in (K)the lake that burns with fire and [c]brimstone, which is the (L)second death.”
9 (M)Then one of the seven angels who had the (N)seven bowls [d]full of the (O)seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “(P)Come here, I will show you the (Q)bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
The New Jerusalem
10 And (R)he carried me away [e](S)in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me (T)the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having (U)the glory of God. Her [f]brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a (V)stone of (W)crystal-clear jasper. 12 [g]It had a great and high wall, [h](X)with twelve (Y)gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. 14 And the wall of the city had (Z)twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the (AA)twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The one who spoke with me had a [i]gold measuring (AB)rod to measure the city, and its (AC)gates and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the [j]rod, [k]fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, [l]seventy-two yards, according to (AD)human [m]measurements, which are also (AE)angelic measurements. 18 The material of the wall was (AF)jasper; and the city was (AG)pure gold, like [n]clear (AH)glass. 19 (AI)The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was (AJ)jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, (AK)emerald; 20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, (AL)sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21 And the twelve (AM)gates were twelve (AN)pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was (AO)pure gold, like transparent (AP)glass.
22 I saw (AQ)no [o]temple in it, for the (AR)Lord God the Almighty and the (AS)Lamb are its [p]temple. 23 And the city (AT)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for (AU)the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the (AV)Lamb. 24 (AW)The nations will walk by its light, and the (AX)kings of the earth [q]will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for (AY)there will be no night there) (AZ)its gates (BA)will never be closed; 26 and (BB)they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and (BC)nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those [r]whose names are (BD)written in the Lamb’s book of life.
