²² So the offering passed over ahead of him, while he spent that night in the camp.

²³ Then he got up that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of the Jabbok. ²⁴ He took them and sent them across the stream, and he sent across whatever he had.

Jacob Wrestles With God

²⁵ So Jacob remained all by himself. Then a man wrestled with him until the break of dawn. ^{[a] 26} When He saw that He had not overcome him, He struck the socket of his hip, so He dislocated the socket of Jacob’s hip when He wrestled with him. ²⁷ Then He said, “Let Me go, for the dawn has broken.”

But he said, “I won’t let You go unless You bless me.”

²⁸ Then He said to him, “What is your name?”

“Jacob,” he said.

²⁹ Then He said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but rather Israel, for you have struggled with God and with men, and you have overcome.”

³⁰ Then Jacob asked and said, “Please tell me Your name.”

But He said, “What’s this—you are asking My name?” Then He blessed him there.

³¹ So Jacob named the place Peniel, “for I’ve seen God face to face, and my life has been spared.”

All Scripture Equips God’s People

¹⁴ You, however, continue in what you have learned and what you have become convinced of. For you know from whom you have learned, ¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to make you wise, leading to salvation through trusting in Messiah Yeshua. ¹⁶ All Scripture is inspired by God^[a] and useful for teaching, for reproof, for restoration, and for training in righteousness, ¹⁷ so that the person belonging to God may be capable, fully equipped for every good deed.

4 I solemnly charge you—in the presence of God and Messiah Yeshua, who is about to judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His Kingdom— ² proclaim the Word! Be ready when it is convenient or inconvenient.^[b] Confront, rebuke, encourage—with complete patience and instruction. ³ For the time will come when they will not put up with sound instruction, but they will pile up for themselves teachers in keeping with their own desires, to have their ears tickled. ⁴ And they will turn away from hearing the truth and wander off to myths. ⁵ You, however, keep a clear mind in all things, withstand hardship, do the work of proclaiming the Good News, and fulfill your service.

18 Then Yeshua told them a parable to show that they should always pray and not be discouraged, ² He said, “There was a judge in a certain city who neither feared God nor respected people. ³ And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my opponent.’

⁴ “He was unwilling at the time. But afterward he said to himself, ‘Although I don’t fear God or respect people, ⁵ yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice so she won’t wear me out by her incessant coming.’”

⁶ Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge is saying. ⁷ Won’t God do justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night? Will He be slow to help them? ⁸ I tell you, He will quickly give them justice. But when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
