⁷ Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down. For your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted their ways.

⁸ “They are soon turned out of the way which I commanded them. They have made a molten calf and have worshipped it, and have made offerings to it, saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”

⁹ Again the LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people. And behold, it is a stiff-necked people.

¹⁰ “Now, therefore, leave Me alone, so that My wrath may grow hot against them; for I will consume them. But, I will make of you a mighty people.”

¹¹ But Moses prayed to the LORD his God, and said, “O LORD, why does Your wrath grow hot against Your people, which You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

¹² “Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He has brought them out maliciously, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the Earth?’ Turn from Your fierce wrath; and change Your mind from this evil toward Your people.

¹³ “Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your seed, as the stars of the sky. And I will give all this land, which I have spoken of, to your seed. And they shall inherit it forever.’”

¹⁴ Then the LORD changed His mind from the evil which He threatened to do to His people.

51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness. According to the multitude of Your compassions, put away my iniquities.

² Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity; and cleanse me from my sin.

³ For I know my iniquities; and my sin is ever before me.

⁴ Against You, against You only, have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be just when You speak and pure when You judge.

⁵ Behold, I was born in iniquity; and in sin my mother conceived me.

⁶ Behold, You love truth to the core. Therefore, You have taught me wisdom in my core.

⁷ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

⁸ Make me hear joy and gladness; so that the bones which You have broken may rejoice.

⁹ Hide Your Face from my sins; and put away all my iniquities.

¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

¹² Therefore, I thank Him Who has made me strong - Christ Jesus our Lord. For He counted me faithful and put me in His service

¹³ when I had previously been a blasphemer and a persecutor and an oppressor. But I was received to mercy. For I did it ignorantly, through unbelief.

¹⁴ But the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁵ This is a true saying and by all means worthy to be received: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of whom I am chief.

¹⁶ But, I was received to mercy for this reason: so that Jesus Christ should first show all long suffering on me, as an example to those who shall (in time) come to believe in Him unto eternal life.

¹⁷ Now, to the King everlasting, immortal, invisible; to God (Who alone is wise) be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

15 Then all the tax collectors and sinners came to Him, to hear Him.

² Therefore, the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, “He receives sinners, and eats with them.”

³ Then He spoke this parable to them, saying,

⁴ “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost until he finds it?

⁵ “And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders with joy.

⁶ “And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me! For I have found my sheep which was lost!’

⁷ “I say to you that joy shall likewise be in Heaven for one sinner who converts, more than for ninety-nine righteous ones who have no need of repentance.

⁸ “Or what woman having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a candle and sweep the house and seek diligently till she finds it?

⁹ “And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me! For I have found the coin which I had lost!’

¹⁰ “Likewise I say to you there is joy in the presence of the angels of God for one sinner who converts.”
