Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
51 When David was rebuked by the Prophet Nathan for his great offenses, he did not only acknowledge the same to God, with protestation of his natural corruption and iniquity, but also left a memorial thereof to his posterity. 7 Therefore first he desireth God to forgive his sins, 10 And to renew in him his holy Spirit. 13 With promise that he will not be unmindful of those great graces. 18 Finally, fearing lest God would punish the whole Church for his fault, he requireth that he would rather increase his graces toward the same.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David, when the Prophet Nathan [a]came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, [b]according to thy loving-kindness: according to the multitude of thy compassions put away mine iniquities.
2 Wash me [c]thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from mine sin.
3 For I [d]know mine iniquities, and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, against thee only have I sinned, and done evil in thy sight, that thou mayest be just when thou [e]speakest, and pure when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was born in iniquity, and in sin hath my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, thou [f]lovest truth in the inward affections: therefore hast thou taught me wisdom in the secret of mine heart.
7 Purge me with (A)hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear [g]joy and gladness, that the [h]bones, which thou hast broken, may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and put away all mine iniquities.
10 [i]Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
20 ¶ Then Noah [a]built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings upon the altar.
21 And the Lord smelled a [b][c]savor of rest, and the Lord said in his heart, I will henceforth curse the ground no more for man’s cause: for the (A)imagination of man’s heart is evil, even from his youth: neither will I smite anymore all things living, as I have done.
22 Hereafter [d]seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and Summer and Winter, and day and night shall not cease, so long as the earth remaineth.
9 1 The confirmation of marriage. 2 Man’s authoritiy over all creatures. 3 Permission of meats. 6 The power of the sword. 14 The rainbow is the sign of God’s promise. 21 Noah is drunk, and mocked of his son, whom he curseth. 29 The age and death of Noah.
1 And God [e]blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, (B)Bring forth fruit, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2 Also the [f]fear of you, and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the heaven, upon all that moveth on the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea: into your hand are they delivered.
3 Everything [g]that moveth and liveth, shall be meat for you: as the (C)green herb, have I given you all things.
4 (D)[h]But flesh with the life thereof, I mean, with the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
5 [i]For surely I will require your blood, wherein your lives are: at the hands of every beast will I require it: and at the hand of man, even at the hand of a man’s [j]brother will I require the life of man.
6 Who so (E)sheddeth man’s blood, [k]by man shall his blood be shed: (F)for in the [l]image of God hath he made man.
7 But bring ye forth fruit and multiply: grow plentifully in the earth, and increase therein.
11 (A)I am that good shepherd: that good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.
12 But an hireling, and he which is not the shepherd, neither the sheep are his own, seeth the wolf coming, and he leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 So the hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am that good shepherd, and know mine, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father [a]knoweth me, so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.
16 [b]Other sheep I have also, which are not of this fold: them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice: and (B)there shall be [c]one sheepfold, and one shepherd.
17 [d]Therefore doth my Father love me, because (C)[e]I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself: I have power to lay it down, and have power to take it again: this (D)commandment have I received of my Father.
19 ¶ [f]Then there was a dissension again among the Jews for these sayings.
20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad: why hear ye him?
21 Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil: can the devil open the eyes of the blind?
