Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Israel's Only Saviour
43 But now thus says the Lord,
(A)he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
(B)“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
(C)I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 (D)When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
(E)when you walk through fire (F)you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For (G)I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.
(H)I give Egypt as your ransom,
Cush and (I)Seba in exchange for you.
4 Because you are precious in my eyes,
and honoured, and I love you,
I give men in return for you,
peoples in exchange for your life.
5 (J)Fear not, for I am with you;
(K)I will bring your offspring from the east,
and from the west I will gather you.
6 I will say to the north, Give up,
and to the south, Do not withhold;
bring (L)my sons from afar
and (M)my daughters from the end of the earth,
7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”
Ascribe to the Lord Glory
A Psalm of David.
29 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,[a]
(A)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in (B)the splendour of holiness.[b]
3 The voice of the Lord is over (C)the waters;
the God of glory (D)thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is (E)powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks (F)the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon to (G)skip like a calf,
and (H)Sirion like a young (I)wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord makes (K)the deer give birth[c]
and strips the forests bare,
and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”
10 The Lord sits enthroned over (L)the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned (M)as king for ever.
11 May the Lord give (N)strength to his people!
May the Lord bless[d] his people with (O)peace!
14 Now when (A)the apostles at Jerusalem heard that (B)Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them (C)that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 for (D)he had not yet (E)fallen on any of them, but (F)they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then (G)they laid their hands on them and (H)they received the Holy Spirit.
15 As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, (A)whether he might be (B)the Christ, 16 (C)John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but (D)he who is mightier than I is coming, (E)the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you (F)with the Holy Spirit and with (G)fire. 17 His (H)winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to (I)gather the wheat into his barn, (J)but the chaff he will burn with (K)unquenchable fire.”
