Deuteronomy 6:1-9

Chapter 6

This then is the commandment, the statutes and the ordinances,(A) which the Lord, your God, has commanded that you be taught to observe in the land you are about to cross into to possess, so that you, that is, you, your child, and your grandchild, may fear the Lord, your God, by keeping, as long as you live, all his statutes and commandments(B) which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life. Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them, that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly; for the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you a land flowing with milk and honey.(C)

The Great Commandment.[a] (D)Hear, O Israel![b] The Lord is our God, the Lord alone! Therefore, you shall love the Lord, your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength.(E) (F)Take to heart these words which I command you today.(G) Keep repeating them to your children. Recite them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up.(H) Bind them on your arm as a sign[c] and let them be as a pendant on your forehead.(I) Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.(J)

Psalm 119:1-8

Psalm 119[a]

A Prayer to God, the Lawgiver

Aleph

Blessed those whose way is blameless,
    who walk by the law of the Lord.(A)
Blessed those who keep his testimonies,
    who seek him with all their heart.(B)
They do no wrong;
    they walk in his ways.
You have given them the command
    to observe your precepts with care.
May my ways be firm
    in the observance of your statutes!
Then I will not be ashamed
    to ponder all your commandments.
I will praise you with sincere heart
    as I study your righteous judgments.
I will observe your statutes;
    do not leave me all alone.

Hebrews 9:11-14

Sacrifice of Jesus. 11 [a]But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be,[b] passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation,(A) 12 he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.(B) 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkling of a heifer’s ashes[c] can sanctify those who are defiled so that their flesh is cleansed,(C) 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit[d] offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.(D)

Mark 12:28-34

28 One of the scribes,(A) when he came forward and heard them disputing and saw how well he had answered them, asked him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?” 29 Jesus replied, “The first is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! 30 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’(B) 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”(C) 32 The scribe said to him, “Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, ‘He is One and there is no other than he.’ 33 And ‘to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself’ is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”(D) 34 And when Jesus saw that [he] answered with understanding, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to ask him any more questions.(E)
