Psalm 146

The Lord—Our Helper

146 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in a son of a man, who cannot save us. When his spirit leaves, he returns to the earth. His thoughts end on that day. Happy is he whose help is the God of Jacob, and whose hope is in the Lord his God. The Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them. He is faithful forever. He helps those who have a bad power over them. He gives food to the hungry. And He sets those in prison free.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord raises up those who are brought down. The Lord loves those who are right and good. The Lord keeps the strangers safe. He takes care of the children who have no father and the woman whose husband has died. But He destroys the way of the sinful. 10 The Lord will rule forever. Your God, O Zion, will rule over all people for all time. Praise the Lord!

Isaiah 32:1-8

A Nation of Right Living

32 See, a king will rule by what is right and good and princes will be fair. Each will be like a safe place from the wind, and a covering from the storm. Each will be like rivers of water in a dry country, and like the shadow of a large rock in a waste land. Then the eyes of those who see will be able to see. And the ears of those who hear will listen. The mind of those who act in a hurry will understand the truth. And the tongue of those who have trouble speaking will hurry to speak well. The fool will no more be called great. The bad man will no more be called a man of honor. For a fool speaks foolish things. His mind plans wrong-doing, to sin and to say false things against the Lord, to keep the hungry person hungry, and to keep drink from the thirsty. The ways of the bad man are sinful. He makes sinful plans to destroy the suffering with lies, even when the one in need asks for what is right. But the man of honor makes good plans, and he stands for what is good.

Romans 2:12-16

12 Those who have sinned without having the Law will be lost without the Law being used. Those who have the Law and have sinned will be judged by the Law. 13 Just to hear the Law does not make a man right with God. The man right with God is the one who obeys the Law. 14 The people who are not Jews do not have the Law. When they do what the Law tells them to do, even if they do not have the Law, it shows they know what they should do. 15 They show that what the Law wants them to do is written in their hearts. Their own hearts tell them if they are guilty. 16 There will be a day when God will judge because He knows the secret thoughts of men. He will do this through Jesus Christ. This is part of the Good News I preach.
