Duration: 1245 days
Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Version
Psalm 119:97-104

97 I deeply love your Law!
I think about it all day.
98 Your laws never leave my mind,
and they make me much wiser
    than my enemies.
99 Thinking about your teachings
gives me better understanding
    than my teachers,
100 and obeying your laws
makes me wiser than those
who have lived a long time.
101 I obey your word
instead of following a way
    that leads to trouble.
102 You have been my teacher,
and I won't reject
    your instructions.
103 Your teachings are sweeter
    than honey.
104 They give me understanding
and make me hate all lies.

Isaiah 33:10-16

10 But the Lord says,
“Now I will do something
    and be greatly praised.
11 Your deeds are straw
that will be set on fire
    by your very own breath.
12 You will be burned to ashes
    like thorns in a fire.
13 Everyone, both far and near,
come look at what I have done.
    See my mighty power!”

Punishment and Rewards

14 Those terrible sinners
on Mount Zion tremble
    as they ask in fear,
“How can we possibly live
where a raging fire
    never stops burning?”

15 But there will be rewards
for those who live right
    and tell the truth,
for those who refuse
    to take money by force
    or accept bribes,
for all who hate murder
    and violent crimes.
16 They will live in a fortress
    high on a rocky cliff,
where they will have food
    and plenty of water.

John 15:16-25

16 You did not choose me. I chose you and sent you out to produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last. Then my Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name.[a] 17 So I command you to love each other.

The World's Hatred

18 If the people of this world[b] hate you, just remember that they hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, its people would love you. But you don't belong to the world. I have chosen you to leave the world behind, and this is why its people hate you. 20 (A) Remember how I told you that servants are not greater than their master. So if people mistreat me, they will mistreat you. If they do what I say, they will do what you say.

21 People will do to you exactly what they did to me. They will do it because you belong to me, and they don't know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.

23 Everyone who hates me also hates my Father. 24 I have done things no one else has ever done. If they had not seen me do these things, they would not be guilty. But they did see me do these things, and they still hate me and my Father too. 25 (B) This is why the Scriptures are true when they say, “People hated me for no reason.”
