I Will Be Declared Righteous
13 “(A)Behold, my eye has seen all this;
My ear has heard and understood it.
2 (B)What you know I also know;
I have not fallen short of you.
3 “But (C)I would speak to [a]the Almighty,
And I desire to (D)argue with God.
4 But you (E)cover me with lies;
You are all (F)worthless physicians.
5 O that you would (G)be completely silent,
And that it would become your wisdom!
6 Please hear my argument
And give heed to the contentions of my lips.
7 Will you (H)speak what is unrighteous for God,
And speak what is deceitful for Him?
8 Will you (I)show partiality for Him?
Will you contend for God?
9 Will it be well when He examines you?
Or (J)will you deceive Him as one deceives a man?
10 He will surely reprove you
If you secretly (K)show partiality.
11 Will not (L)His exaltedness terrify you,
And the dread of Him fall on you?
12 Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes;
Your defenses are defenses of clay.
13 “(M)Be silent before me so that I may speak;
Then let come on me what may.
14 Why should I take my flesh in my teeth
And (N)put my life in my [b]hands?
15 [c](O)Though He slay me,
I will hope in Him.
Nevertheless I (P)will argue my ways [d]before Him.
16 This also will be my (Q)salvation,
For (R)a godless man may not come before His presence.
17 [e]Listen carefully to my words,
And let my declaration fill your ears.
18 Behold now, I have (S)arranged my case for justice;
I know that (T)I will be declared righteous.
19 (U)Who will contend with me?
For now I am silent and (V)will breathe my last.
Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
7 A woman of Samaria *came to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His (A)disciples had gone away into (B)the city to buy food. 9 Therefore the (C)Samaritan woman *said to Him, “How do You, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?” (For (D)Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you (E)living water.” 11 She *said to Him, “[a]Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then do You get that (F)living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who (G)gave us this well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?” 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him (H)will never thirst—ever; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to (I)eternal life.”
15 The woman *said to Him, “[b]Sir, (J)give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come back here to draw.” 16 He *said to her, “Go, call your husband and come back here.” 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus *said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.” 19 The woman *said to Him, “[c]Sir, I see that You are (K)a prophet. 20 (L)Our fathers worshiped on (M)this mountain, and you people say that (N)in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.” 21 Jesus *said to her, “Woman, believe Me, (O)an hour is coming when (P)neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 (Q)You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for (R)salvation is from the Jews. 23 But (S)an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father (T)in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is [d]spirit, and those who worship Him must worship (U)in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman *said to Him, “I know that (V)Messiah is coming ((W)He who is called [e]Christ); when He comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26 Jesus *said to her, “(X)I who speak to you am He.”
