Psalm 103

Of David.

⁵³ “‘However, I will restore^(A) the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them,^{(B) 54} so that you may bear your disgrace^(C) and be ashamed of all you have done in giving them comfort. ⁵⁵ And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before.^{(D) 56} You would not even mention your sister Sodom in the day of your pride, ⁵⁷ before your wickedness was uncovered. Even so, you are now scorned^(E) by the daughters of Edom^[a](F) and all her neighbors and the daughters of the Philistines—all those around you who despise you. ⁵⁸ You will bear the consequences of your lewdness and your detestable practices, declares the Lord.^(G)

⁵⁹ “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant.^{(H) 60} Yet I will remember the covenant^(I) I made with you in the days of your youth,^(J) and I will establish an everlasting covenant^(K) with you. ⁶¹ Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed^(L) when you receive your sisters, both those who are older than you and those who are younger. I will give them to you as daughters,^(M) but not on the basis of my covenant with you. ⁶² So I will establish my covenant^(N) with you, and you will know that I am the Lord.^{(O) 63} Then, when I make atonement^(P) for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed^(Q) and never again open your mouth^(R) because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(S)’”

⁵³ Then they all went home, 8 ¹ but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.^(A)

² At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.^{(B) 3} The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group ⁴ and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. ⁵ In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women.^(C) Now what do you say?” ⁶ They were using this question as a trap,^(D) in order to have a basis for accusing him.^(E)

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. ⁷ When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone^(F) at her.”^{(G) 8} Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

⁹ At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. ¹⁰ Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

¹¹ “No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,”^(H) Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”^(I)
