Peter Preaches the Second Time

12 When Peter saw this, he said to them, “Jewish men, why are you surprised at this? Why do you look at us as if we had made this man walk by our own power or holy lives? 13 The God of our fathers, the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, has done this. He has honored His Son Jesus. He is the One you handed over to Pilate. You turned your backs on Him after Pilate had decided to let Him go free. 14 But you turned your backs against the Holy and Right One. Then you asked for a man who had killed someone to go free. 15 You killed the very One Who made all life. But God raised Him from the dead. We saw Him alive. 16 You see and know this man here. He has been made strong through faith in Jesus’ name. Yes, it is faith in Christ that has made this man well and strong. This man is standing here in front of you all.

17 “Brothers, I know you and your leaders did this without knowing what you were doing. 18 In this way, God did what He said He would do through all the early preachers. He said that Christ must suffer many hard things. 19 But you must be sorry for your sins and turn from them. You must turn to God and have your sins taken away. Then many times your soul will receive new strength from the Lord.

Psalm 4

Evening Prayer of Trust

Answer me when I call, O my God Who is right and good! You have made a way for me when I needed help. Be kind to me, and hear my prayer.

O sons of men, how long will you turn my honor into shame? How long will you love what is of no use, and run after lies? Know that the Lord has set apart him who is God-like for Himself. The Lord hears when I call to Him.

Shake with anger and do not sin. When you are on your bed, look into your hearts and be quiet. Give the gifts that are right and good, and trust in the Lord.

Many are asking, “Who will show us any good?” Let the light of Your face shine on us, O Lord. You have filled my heart with more happiness than they have when there is much grain and wine. I will lie down and sleep in peace. O Lord, You alone keep me safe.

1 John 3:1-7

We Are God’s Children

See what great love the Father has for us that He would call us His children. And that is what we are. For this reason the people of the world do not know who we are because they did not know Him. Dear friends, we are God’s children now. But it has not yet been shown to us what we are going to be. We know that when He comes again, we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is. The person who is looking for this to happen will keep himself pure because Christ is pure.

The person who keeps on sinning is guilty of not obeying the Law of God. For sin is breaking the Law of God. You know that Christ came to take away our sins. There is no sin in Him. The person who lives by the help of Christ does not keep on sinning. The person who keeps on sinning has not seen Him or has not known Him. My children, let no one lead you in the wrong way. The man who does what is right, is right with God in the same way as Christ is right with God.

Luke 24:36-48

Jesus Is Seen by the Other Ten Followers

36 As they talked, Jesus Himself stood among them. He said, “May you have peace.” 37 But they were afraid and full of fear. They thought they saw a spirit. 38 Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Why do you have doubts in your hearts? 39 Look at My hands and My feet. See! It is I, Myself! Touch Me and see for yourself. A spirit does not have flesh and bones as I have.” 40 When Jesus had said this, He showed them His hands and feet.

41 They still wondered. It was hard for them to believe it and yet it made them happy. Then He said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave Jesus a piece of fish that had been cooked and some honey. 43 He took it and ate it in front of them.

Jesus Sends His Followers to Teach (A)

44 Jesus said to them, “These are the things I told you while I was yet with you. All things written about Me in the Law of Moses and in the Books of the early preachers and in the Psalms must happen as they said they would happen.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Holy Writings. 46 He said to them, “It is written that Christ should suffer and be raised from the dead after three days. 47 It must be preached that men must be sorry for their sins and turn from them. Then they will be forgiven. This must be preached in His name to all nations beginning in Jerusalem. 48 You are to tell what you have seen.
