Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Lord’s Covenant with David, and Israel’s Afflictions.
A [a]Maskil of [b]Ethan [c]the Ezrahite.
89 I will (A)sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever;
To all generations I will (B)make known Your (C)faithfulness with my mouth.
2 For I have said, “(D)Lovingkindness will be built up forever;
In the heavens You will establish Your (E)faithfulness.”
3 “I have made a covenant with (F)My chosen;
I have (G)sworn to David My servant,
4 I will establish your (H)seed forever
And build up your (I)throne to all generations.” [d]Selah.
19 [a]Once You spoke in vision to Your godly [b]ones,
And said, “I have [c]given help to one who is (A)mighty;
I have exalted one (B)chosen from the people.
20 “I have (C)found David My servant;
With My holy (D)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (E)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (F)strengthen him.
22 “The enemy will not [d]deceive him,
Nor the [e](G)son of wickedness afflict him.
23 “But I shall (H)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 “My (I)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (J)horn will be exalted.
25 “I shall also set his hand (K)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 “He will cry to Me, ‘You are (L)my Father,
My God, and the (M)rock of my salvation.’
The Ark Is Brought to Jerusalem
12 Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of God.” (A)David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into (B)the city of David with gladness. 13 And so it was, that when the (C)bearers of the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed an (D)ox and a fatling. 14 And (E)David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, and David was [a](F)wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouting and the sound of the trumpet.
16 Then it happened as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David that (G)Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.
17 So they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it (H)in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and (I)David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offering, (J)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. 19 Further, he distributed to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, both to men and women, a cake of bread and one of dates and one of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed each to his house.
5 For to which of the angels did He ever say,
“(A)You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You”?
And again,
“(B)I will be a Father to Him
And He shall be a Son to Me”?
6 And [a]when He again (C)brings the firstborn into [b](D)the world, He says,
“(E)And let all the angels of God worship Him.”
7 And of the angels He says,
“(F)Who makes His angels winds,
And His ministers a flame of fire.”
8 But of the Son He says,
“(G)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
And the righteous scepter is the scepter of [c]His kingdom.
9 “(H)You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
(I)Therefore God, Your God, has (J)anointed You
With the oil of gladness above Your companions.”
10 And,
“(K)You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands;
11 (L)They will perish, but You remain;
(M)And they all will become old like a garment,
12 (N)And like a mantle You will roll them up;
Like a garment they will also be changed.
But You are (O)the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.”
13 But to which of the angels has He ever said,
14 Are they not all (R)ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will (S)inherit (T)salvation?
