Psalm 119:41-48

ו Waw

41 Let your faithful love come to me, Lord,(A)
your salvation, as you promised.(B)
42 Then I can answer the one who taunts me,(C)
for I trust in your word.
43 Never take the word of truth from my mouth,
for I hope in your judgments.(D)
44 I will always obey your instruction,
forever and ever.(E)
45 I will walk freely in an open place(F)
because I study your precepts.(G)
46 I will speak of your decrees before kings
and not be ashamed.(H)
47 I delight in your commands,
which I love.(I)
48 I will lift up my hands(J) to your commands,
which I love,
and will meditate on your statutes.(K)

Deuteronomy 10:10-22

10 “I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights like the first time. The Lord also listened to me on this occasion;(A) he agreed not to annihilate you. 11 Then the Lord said to me, ‘Get up. Continue your journey ahead of the people, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to give their ancestors.’(B)

What God Requires

12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear(C) the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul?(D) 13 Keep the Lord’s commands and statutes I am giving you today, for your own good.(E) 14 The heavens, indeed the highest heavens, belong to the Lord your God, as does the earth and everything in it.(F) 15 Yet the Lord had his heart set on your ancestors and loved them.(G) He chose their descendants after them—he chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today.(H) 16 Therefore, circumcise your hearts(I) and don’t be stiff-necked any longer. 17 For the Lord your God is the God of gods(J) and Lord of lords,(K) the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God, showing no partiality and taking no bribe.(L) 18 He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the resident alien, giving him food and clothing.(M) 19 You are also to love the resident alien, since you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt.(N) 20 You are to fear the Lord your God and worship him. Remain faithful[a] to him and take oaths in his name.(O) 21 He is your praise and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awe-inspiring works your eyes have seen. 22 Your ancestors went down to Egypt, seventy people in all,(P) and now the Lord your God has made you numerous, like the stars of the sky.(Q)

James 2:14-26

Faith and Works

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him?

15 If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?(A) 17 In the same way faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.”[a] Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith by my works.(B) 19 You believe that God is one. Good! Even the demons believe—and they shudder.(C)

20 Senseless person! Are you willing to learn that faith without works is useless? 21 Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works in offering Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active together with his works, and by works, faith was made complete,(D) 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,[b](E) and he was called God’s friend.(F) 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works in receiving the messengers and sending them out by a different route?(G) 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
