Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Yahweh Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23 Yahweh is my (A)shepherd,
I [a]shall (B)not want.
2 He makes me lie down in (C)green pastures;
He (D)leads me beside [b](E)quiet waters.
3 He (F)restores my soul;
He (G)guides me in the [c](H)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I (I)walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I (J)fear no [e]evil, for (K)You are with me;
Your (L)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You (M)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have (N)anointed my head with oil;
My (O)cup overflows.
6 [g]Surely (P)goodness and lovingkindness will [h]pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will [i](Q)dwell in the house of Yahweh [j]forever.
8 And He revealed the [a]defense of Judah.
In that day you looked to the weapons of the (A)house of the forest,
9 And you saw that the breaches
In the wall of the city of David were many;
And you (B)collected the waters of the lower pool.
10 Then you counted the houses of Jerusalem
And tore down houses to fortify the wall.
11 And you made a reservoir (C)between the two walls
For the waters of the (D)old pool.
But you did not look to Him who made it,
Nor did you see Him who formed it long ago.
12 Therefore in that day Lord Yahweh of hosts called you to (E)weeping, to wailing,
To (F)shaving the head, and to wearing sackcloth.
13 Instead, behold, there is (G)joy and gladness,
Killing of cattle and slaughtering of sheep,
Eating of meat and drinking of wine:
“(H)Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die.”
14 But Yahweh of hosts revealed Himself in my ears,
“Surely this (I)iniquity (J)shall not be atoned for you
(K)Until you die,” says Lord Yahweh of hosts.
4 You (A)adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with (B)the world is (C)enmity toward God? (D)Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world sets himself as an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture (E)speaks to no purpose: “[a]He [b]jealously desires (F)the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”? 6 But (G)He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “(H)God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 7 (I)Be subject therefore to God. (J)Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 (K)Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (L)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and (M)purify your hearts, you (N)double-minded. 9 (O)Be miserable and mourn and cry. Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 (P)Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.
