Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
I Will Sing of the Steadfast Love of the Lord
A Maskil[a] of (A)Ethan the Ezrahite.
89 (B)I will sing of (C)the steadfast love of the Lord, forever;
with my mouth I will make known your (D)faithfulness to all generations.
2 For I said, (E)“Steadfast love will be built up forever;
in the heavens (F)you will establish your (G)faithfulness.”
3 You have said, “I have made (H)a covenant with my (I)chosen one;
I have (J)sworn to David my servant:
4 ‘I will establish your (K)offspring forever,
and build your (L)throne for all generations.’” Selah
15 Blessed are the people who know (A)the festal shout,
who walk, O Lord, in (B)the light of your face,
16 who exult in your (C)name all the day
and in your righteousness are (D)exalted.
17 For you are (E)the glory of their strength;
by your favor our (F)horn is exalted.
18 For our (G)shield belongs to the Lord,
our king to (H)the Holy One of Israel.
8 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words, 9 (A)behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, (B)my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, (C)and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation. 10 Moreover, (D)I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, (E)the grinding of the millstones and (F)the light of the lamp. 11 (G)This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and (H)these nations shall serve the king of Babylon (I)seventy years. 12 Then after (J)seventy years are completed, (K)I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, (L)the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, declares the Lord, (M)making the land an everlasting waste. 13 I will bring upon that land all the words that I have uttered against it, everything written (N)in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations. 14 (O)For many nations (P)and great kings shall make slaves even of them, (Q)and I will recompense them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”
7 (A)You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying (B)the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from (C)him who calls you. 9 (D)A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 (E)I have confidence in the Lord that you will (F)take no other view, and (G)the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. 11 But if I, brothers,[a] still preach[b] circumcision, (H)why am I still being persecuted? In that case (I)the offense of the cross has been removed. 12 I wish (J)those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!
