Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Remember His Wondrous Deeds
105 Oh (A)give thanks to Yahweh, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make known His acts among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
(E)Muse on all His wondrous deeds.
3 Boast in His holy name;
Let the (F)heart of those who seek Yahweh be glad.
4 Inquire of Yahweh and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
5 Remember His (I)wondrous deeds which He has done,
His miracles and the (J)judgments [a]uttered by His mouth,
6 O seed of (K)Abraham, His servant,
O sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!
7 He is Yahweh our God;
His (N)judgments are in all the earth.
8 He has (O)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded for a (P)thousand generations,
9 (Q)Which He cut with Abraham,
And His (R)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (S)confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(T)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [b](U)portion of your inheritance,”
37 Then He brought them out with (A)silver and gold,
And there was none among His tribes who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (B)glad when they went out,
For the (C)dread of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a (D)cloud for a [a]covering,
And (E)fire to give light by night.
40 [b]They (F)asked, and He brought (G)quail,
And He satisfied them with the [c](H)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [d]rock and (I)water flowed out;
[e]It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He (J)remembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;
43 And He brought His people out with joy,
His chosen ones with a shout of (K)joy.
44 He (L)gave them also the lands of the [f]nations,
That they (M)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 So that they might (N)keep His statutes
And observe His laws,
[g]Praise Yah!
Yahweh Calls Samuel
3 Now (A)the young boy Samuel was ministering to Yahweh before Eli. And (B)word from Yahweh was rare in those days; [a]visions were infrequent.
2 And it happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now (C)his eyesight had begun to fade, and he could not see well), 3 and (D)the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of Yahweh where the ark of God was, 4 that Yahweh called Samuel; and he said, “(E)Here I am.” 5 Then he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; go back, lie down.” So he went and lay down. 6 Then Yahweh called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he [b]answered, “I did not call, my son; go back, lie down.” 7 (F)Now Samuel did not yet know Yahweh, nor had the word of Yahweh yet been revealed to him. 8 So Yahweh called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli discerned that Yahweh was calling the young boy. 9 And Eli said to Samuel, “Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, Yahweh, for Your slave is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
13 (A)But we should always give thanks to God for you, (B)brothers beloved by the Lord, because (C)God has chosen you [a]as the first fruits (D)for salvation (E)through sanctification [b]by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 [c]It was for this He (F)called you through (G)our gospel, [d]that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, (H)stand firm and (I)hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether (J)by word of mouth or (K)by letter [e]from us.
16 (L)Now may our Lord Jesus Christ (M)Himself and God our Father, who has (N)loved us and given us eternal comfort and (O)good hope by grace, 17 (P)encourage your hearts and (Q)strengthen them in every good work and word.
Disobedient Brothers
3 (R)Finally, brothers, (S)pray for us that (T)the word of the Lord will [f]spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; 2 and that we will be (U)rescued from [g]perverse and evil men, for not all have [h]faith. 3 But (V)the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen and guard you [i]from (W)the evil one. 4 And we have (X)confidence in the Lord about you, that you (Y)are doing and will continue to do what we command. 5 And may the Lord (Z)direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.
