Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Morning Prayer of Trust in God.
A Psalm of David, when [a]he fled from Absalom his son.
3 O Lord, how (A)my adversaries have increased!
Many are rising up against me.
2 Many are saying [b]of my soul,
“There is no [c](B)deliverance for him in God.” [d]Selah.
3 But You, O Lord, are (C)a shield about me,
My (D)glory, and the One who (E)lifts my head.
4 I was crying to the Lord with my voice,
And He (F)answered me from (G)His holy [e]mountain. Selah.
5 [f]I (H)lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustains me.
6 I will (I)not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have (J)set themselves against me round about.
12 “Woe to him who (A)builds a city with bloodshed
And founds a town with [a]violence!
13 “Is it not indeed from the Lord of hosts
That peoples (B)toil for fire,
And nations grow weary for nothing?
14 “For the earth will be (C)filled
With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
As the waters cover the sea.
15 “Woe to you who make [b]your neighbors drink,
Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk
So as to look on their nakedness!
16 “You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor.
Now you yourself (D)drink and [c]expose your own nakedness.
The (E)cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you,
And (F)utter disgrace will come upon your glory.
17 “For the (G)violence [d]done to Lebanon will [e]overwhelm you,
And the devastation of its beasts [f]by which you terrified them,
(H)Because of human bloodshed and (I)violence [g]done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.
18 “What (J)profit is the [h]idol when its maker has carved it,
Or [i]an image, a (K)teacher of falsehood?
For its maker (L)trusts in his own handiwork
When he fashions speechless idols.
19 “Woe to him who (M)says to a piece of wood, ‘(N)Awake!’
To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’
And that is your teacher?
Behold, it is overlaid with (O)gold and silver,
And there is (P)no breath at all inside it.
20 “But the (Q)Lord is in His holy temple.
[j]Let all the earth (R)be silent before Him.”
12 (A)On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry. 13 Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening.
20 (A)As they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. 21 Being reminded, Peter *said to Him, “(B)Rabbi, look, the fig tree which You cursed has withered.” 22 And Jesus *answered saying to them, “(C)Have faith in God. 23 (D)Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. 24 Therefore I say to you, (E)all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.
