Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Thanksgiving to God for His Works
For the music director. A song. A psalm.[a]
66 Shout joyfully to God, all the earth.
2 Sing the glory of his name.
Set forth his glorious praise.[b]
3 Say to God, “How awesome are your works!
Because of the greatness of your strength,
your enemies will cringe before you.
4 All the earth will bow in worship to you,
and sing praise to you.
They will sing the praise of your name.” Selah
5 Come and consider[c] the works of God;
he is awesome in his dealings[d] with the children of humankind.
6 He turned the sea into dry ground;
they passed through the river on foot.
There we rejoiced in him.
7 He rules by his might forever;
his eyes keep watch on the nations.
Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves.[e] Selah
8 Bless our God, O peoples,
and cause the sound of his praise to be heard,
9 the one who has kept our soul among the living,
and has not allowed our foot to slip.
10 All the land will be transformed into a desert plateau[a] from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. But it[b] will rise up high and it will stay[c] in its place from the Gate of Benjamin to the place of the former gate, up to the Corner Gate and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. 11 And they[d] will dwell in it, and there will be no more ban imposed,[e] and Jerusalem will dwell in security.
12 And this will be the plague with which Yahweh will strike all the peoples that fight against Jerusalem: their[f] flesh will rot while they[g] are standing on their[h] feet; their[i] eyes will rot in their sockets, and their[j] tongues[k] will rot in their mouths.[l] 13 And then[m] on that day a great panic from Yahweh will fall[n] on them, and they will seize one another’s hand,[o] and the hand of the one will be raised against the hand of another.[p] 14 And Judah also will fight at[q] Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—gold and silver, and garments in great abundance.[r] 15 Like this plague[s] will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, and the donkey, and every kind of animal in those camps.
16 And then[t] every survivor from all those nations coming against Jerusalem will go up year after year[u] to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, and celebrate the Feast of Booths.[v] 17 And then[w] whoever of the clans of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, it will not rain on them. 18 And if the clan of Egypt will not go up and come in, on them will be that plague Yahweh inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.
20 On that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “Holy to Yahweh.” And the cooking pots in the house[x] of Yahweh will be holy like the sacrificial basins[y] before the altar. 21 And every cooking pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to Yahweh of hosts, and all those who sacrifice will come and will take from them, and will cook in them, and there will be no longer a trader[z] in the house[aa] of Yahweh of hosts on that day.
The Twelve Commissioned and Sent Out
9 And summoning the twelve, he gave them power and authority over all the demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 And he said to them, “Take along nothing for the journey—neither a staff, nor a traveler’s bag, nor bread, nor money, nor to have two tunics apiece. 4 And into whatever house you enter, stay there and depart from there. 5 And as for all those who do not welcome you—when you[a] depart from that town, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony against them.” 6 So they departed and[b] went throughout the villages, proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.
