Version
Psalm 16

The Lord the Psalmist’s Portion in Life and Deliverer in Death.

A [a]Mikhtam of David.

16 (A)Preserve me, O God, for (B)I take refuge in You.
[b]I said to the Lord, “You are [c]my Lord;
I (C)have no good besides You.”
As for the [d](D)saints who are in the earth,
[e]They are the majestic ones (E)in whom is all my delight.
The [f](F)sorrows of those who have [g]bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of (G)blood,
Nor will I (H)take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the (I)portion of my inheritance and my (J)cup;
You support my (K)lot.
The (L)lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is (M)beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has (N)counseled me;
Indeed, my [h](O)mind instructs me in the night.
(P)I have (Q)set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is (R)at my right hand, (S)I will not be shaken.
Therefore (T)my heart is glad and (U)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (V)dwell securely.
10 For You (W)will not abandon my soul to [i]Sheol;
Nor will You [j](X)allow Your [k]Holy One to [l]undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me (Y)the path of life;
In (Z)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (AA)pleasures forever.

Deuteronomy 32:15-27

15 (A)But [a]Jeshurun grew fat and kicked—
You are grown fat, thick, and sleek—
(B)Then he forsook God (C)who made him,
And scorned (D)the Rock of his salvation.
16 (E)They made Him jealous with strange gods;
(F)With abominations they provoked Him to anger.
17 (G)They sacrificed to demons who were not God,
(H)To gods whom they have not known,
(I)New gods who came lately,
Whom your fathers did not dread.
18 “You neglected (J)the Rock who begot you,
(K)And forgot the God who gave you birth.

19 (L)The Lord saw this, and spurned them
(M)Because of the provocation of His sons and daughters.
20 “Then He said, ‘I will hide My face from them,
(N)I will see what their end shall be;
(O)For they are a perverse generation,
(P)Sons in whom is no faithfulness.
21 (Q)They have made Me jealous with what is not God;
They have provoked Me to anger with their [b](R)idols.
(S)So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people;
I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,
22 (T)For a fire is kindled in My anger,
And burns to the lowest part of [c]Sheol,
(U)And consumes the earth with its yield,
And sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23 (V)I will heap misfortunes on them;
(W)I will use My arrows on them.
24 (X)They will be wasted by famine, and consumed by [d]plague
(Y)And bitter destruction;
(Z)And the teeth of beasts I will send upon them,
(AA)With the venom of crawling things of the dust.
25 (AB)Outside the sword will bereave,
And inside terror—
(AC)Both young man and virgin,
The nursling with the man of gray hair.
26 ‘I would have said, “(AD)I will cut them to pieces,
(AE)I will remove the memory of them from men,”
27 Had I not feared the provocation by the enemy,
That their adversaries would misjudge,
That they would say, “(AF)Our hand is [e]triumphant,
And the Lord has not done all this.”’

Deuteronomy 32:39-43

39 (A)See now that I, I am He,
(B)And there is no god besides Me;
(C)It is I who put to death and give life.
(D)I have wounded and it is I who heal,
(E)And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
40 ‘Indeed, (F)I lift up My hand to heaven,
And say, as I live forever,
41 (G)If I sharpen My [a]flashing sword,
And My hand takes hold on justice,
(H)I will render vengeance on My adversaries,
And I will repay those who hate Me.
42 (I)I will make My arrows drunk with blood,
(J)And My sword will devour flesh,
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the long-haired [b]leaders of the enemy.’
43 (K)Rejoice, O nations, with His people;
(L)For He will avenge the blood of His servants,
(M)And will render vengeance on His adversaries,
(N)And will atone for His land and His people.”

Luke 9:21-27

21 But He [a](A)warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, 22 (B)saying, (C)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day.”

23 And He was saying to them all, (D)If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 For (E)whoever wishes to save his [b]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [c]life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. 25 For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and (F)loses or forfeits himself? 26 (G)For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But I say to you truthfully, (H)there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
