Psalm 81:1-10

Psalm 81

A Call to Obedience

For the choir director: on the Gittith. Of Asaph.(A)

Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.(B)
Lift up a song—play the tambourine,
the melodious lyre, and the harp.(C)
Blow the ram’s horn on the day of our feasts[a]
during the new moon(D)
and during the full moon.
For this is a statute for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.(E)
He set it up as a decree for Joseph
when he went throughout[b] the land of Egypt.(F)
I heard an unfamiliar language:
“I relieved his shoulder from the burden;
his hands were freed from carrying the basket.(G)
You called out in distress, and I rescued you;
I answered you from the thundercloud.(H)
I tested you at the Waters of Meribah.(I)Selah
Listen, my people, and I will admonish you.
Israel, if you would only listen to me!(J)
There must not be a strange god among you;
you must not bow down to a foreign god.(K)
10 I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up from the land of Egypt.(L)
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.(M)

Leviticus 24:5-9

“Take fine flour and bake it into twelve loaves;(A) each loaf is to be made with four quarts.[a] Arrange them in two rows, six to a row, on the pure gold table(B) before the Lord. Place pure frankincense(C) near each row, so that it may serve as a memorial portion(D) for the bread and a food offering(E) to the Lord. The bread is to be set out before the Lord every Sabbath day as a permanent covenant(F) obligation on the part of the Israelites. It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place, for it is the holiest portion for him from the food offerings to the Lord; this is a permanent rule.”

John 7:19-24

19 Didn’t Moses(A) give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law.(B) Why are you trying to kill me?”

20 “You have a demon!” the crowd responded. “Who is trying to kill you?”

21 “I performed one work,(C) and you are all amazed,” Jesus answered. 22 “This is why Moses has given you circumcision(D) —not that it comes from Moses but from the fathers(E) —and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.(F) 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath(G) so that the law of Moses(H) won’t be broken, are you angry at me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath? 24 Stop judging(I) according to outward appearances; rather judge according to righteous judgment.”
