Psalm 9

Celebration of God’s Justice

For the choir director: according to Muth-labben.[a] A Davidic psalm.

I will thank Yahweh with all my heart;
I will declare all Your wonderful works.(A)
I will rejoice and boast about You;(B)
I will sing about Your name, Most High.(C)

When my enemies retreat,
they stumble and perish before You.(D)
For You have upheld my just cause;[b](E)
You are seated on Your throne as a righteous judge.(F)
You have rebuked the nations:(G)
You have destroyed the wicked;(H)
You have erased their name forever and ever.(I)
The enemy has come to eternal ruin;
You have uprooted the cities,
and the very memory of them has perished.(J)

But the Lord sits enthroned forever;(K)
He has established His throne for judgment.(L)
He judges the world with righteousness;
He executes judgment on the nations with fairness.(M)
The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a refuge in times of trouble.(N)
10 Those who know Your name trust in You
because You have not abandoned
those who seek You, Yahweh.(O)

11 Sing to the Lord, who dwells in Zion;(P)
proclaim His deeds among the nations.(Q)
12 For the One who seeks an accounting
for bloodshed remembers them;(R)
He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.(S)

13 Be gracious to me, Lord;
consider my affliction at the hands of those who hate me.(T)
Lift me up from the gates of death,(U)
14 so that I may declare all Your praises.
I will rejoice in Your salvation(V)
within the gates of Daughter Zion.

Zechariah 2:1-5

Third Vision: Surveyor

[a]I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. I asked, “Where are you going?”

He answered me, “To measure Jerusalem to determine its width and length.”

Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel went out to meet him. He said to him, “Run and tell this young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the number of people and livestock in it.”(A) The declaration of the Lord: “I will be a wall(B) of fire around it, and I will be the glory within it.”

Zechariah 5:1-4

Sixth Vision: Flying Scroll

I looked up again and saw a flying scroll.(A) “What do you see?” he asked me.

“I see a flying scroll,” I replied, “30 feet[a] long and 15 feet[b] wide.”(B)

Then he said to me, “This is the curse(C) that is going out over the whole land, for every thief will be removed according to what is written on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be removed according to what is written on the other side. I will send it out,”(D)—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts—“and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It will stay inside his house and destroy it along with its timbers and stones.”(E)

1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

Exhortations and Blessings

12 Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition(A) to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace(B) among yourselves. 14 And we exhort you, brothers:(C) warn those who are irresponsible,[a] comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient(D) with everyone. 15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil(E) to anyone,(F) but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.(G)

16 Rejoice(H) always!
17 Pray constantly.
18 Give thanks in everything,
for this is God’s will(I) for you in Christ Jesus.
