Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 65
God’s Care for the Earth
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. A song.
1 Praise is rightfully Yours,[a]
God, in Zion;
vows to You will be fulfilled.(A)
2 All humanity will come to You,
the One who hears prayer.(B)
3 Iniquities overwhelm me;
only You can atone for[b] our rebellions.(C)
4 How happy is the one You choose
and bring near to live in Your courts!
We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
the holiness of Your temple.[c](D)
5 You answer us in righteousness,
with awe-inspiring works,
God of our salvation,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the distant seas.(E)
6 You establish the mountains by Your[d] power,
robed with strength.(F)
7 You silence the roar of the seas,
the roar of their waves,
and the tumult of the nations.(G)
8 Those who live far away are awed by Your signs;
You make east and west shout for joy.(H)
9 You visit the earth and water it abundantly,
enriching it greatly.
God’s stream is filled with water,
for You prepare the earth[a] in this way,
providing people with grain.(A)
10 You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.(B)
11 You crown the year with Your goodness;
Your ways overflow with plenty.[b](C)
12 The wilderness pastures overflow,
and the hills are robed with joy.(D)
13 The pastures are clothed with flocks
and the valleys covered with grain.(E)
They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.(F)
6 You have heard it. Observe it all.
Will you not acknowledge it?
From now on I will announce new things to you,
hidden things that you have not known.(A)
7 They have been created now, and not long ago;
you have not heard of them before today,
so you could not claim, ‘I already knew them!’
8 You have never heard; you have never known;
For a long time your ears have not been open.
For I knew that you were very treacherous,
and were known as a rebel from birth.(B)
9 I will delay My anger for the honor of My name,
and I will restrain Myself for your benefit and for My praise,
so that you will not be destroyed.
10 Look, I have refined you,(C) but not as silver;
I have tested[a] you in the furnace of affliction.
11 I will act for My own sake, indeed, My own,(D)
for how can I[b] be defiled?
I will not give My glory to another.(E)
From Jerusalem to Illyricum
14 My brothers, I myself am convinced about you that you also are full of goodness,(A) filled with all knowledge,(B) and able to instruct one another. 15 Nevertheless, I have written to remind you more boldly on some points[a] because of the grace given me by God(C) 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles,(D) serving as a priest of God’s good news.(E) My purpose is that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable,(F) sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore I have reason to boast in Christ Jesus(G) regarding what pertains to God.(H) 18 For I would not dare say anything except what Christ has accomplished through me(I) to make the Gentiles obedient by word and deed, 19 by the power of miraculous signs and wonders,(J) and by the power of God’s Spirit. As a result, I have fully proclaimed the good news about the Messiah from Jerusalem(K) all the way around to Illyricum.[b](L) 20 My aim is to evangelize where Christ has not been named,(M) so that I will not build on someone else’s foundation,(N) 21 but, as it is written:
