Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
10 For as the (A)rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And giving (B)seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 So will My (C)word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will (D)not return to Me empty,
Without (E)accomplishing what pleases Me,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
12 For you will go out with (F)gladness
And be led forth with (G)peace;
The (H)mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,
And all the (I)trees of the field will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the (J)thorn bush the (K)cypress will come up,
And instead of the (L)nettle the myrtle will come up,
And [a]it will be to Yahweh for His [b](M)renown,
For an everlasting (N)sign which (O)will not be cut off.”
How Great Are Your Works, O Yahweh
A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath day.
92 It is (A)good to give thanks to Yahweh
And to (B)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To (C)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (D)faithfulness [a]by night,
3 [b]With the (E)ten-stringed lute and with the (F)harp,
[c]With resounding music [d]upon the (G)lyre.
4 For You, O Yahweh, have made me glad by [e]what You (H)have done,
I will (I)sing for joy at the (J)works of Your hands.
12 The (A)righteous man will [a]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (B)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (C)Planted in the house of Yahweh,
They will flourish (D)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [b](E)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [c]rich and fresh,
15 To [d]declare that (F)Yahweh is upright;
He is my (G)rock, and there is (H)no unrighteousness in Him.
51 Behold, I tell you a (A)mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be (B)changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For (C)the trumpet will sound, and (D)the dead will be raised incorruptible, and (E)we will be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on (F)the incorruptible, and this (G)mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this corruptible puts on the incorruptible, and this mortal puts on immortality, then will come about the word that is written, “(H)Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 (I)O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 Now the sting of (J)death is sin, and (K)the power of sin is the law; 57 but (L)thanks be to God, who gives us the (M)victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58 (N)Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in (O)the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
39 And He also spoke a parable to them: “(A)Can a blind man guide a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 (B)A [a]student is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will [b]be like his teacher. 41 And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. 43 (C)For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, [c]on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. 44 (D)For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a bramble bush. 45 (E)The good man out of the good [d]treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil. (F)For his mouth speaks from the abundance of his heart.
Build Your House on the Rock
46 “(G)Now why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 (H)Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the river burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who heard and did not do accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the river burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”
