Psalm 92:1-4

Thanksgiving to Yahweh for Victory

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.[a]

92 It is good to give thanks to Yahweh,
and to sing praise concerning your name, O Most High;
to declare in the morning your loyal love
and your faithfulness in the night,
on the ten string, and on the harp,
with a melody on the lyre.
For you, O Yahweh, have made me glad by your work;
by the deeds of your hands I sing for joy.

Psalm 92:12-15

12 The righteous[a] will flourish like the date palm.
They will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Planted in the house[b] of Yahweh,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still prosper in old age.
They will be fat and luxuriant,[c]
15 to declare that Yahweh is upright.
He is my rock, and there is no injustice[d] in him.

Isaiah 30:8-17

Now go, write it on a tablet with them,
    and inscribe it on a scroll,
that[a] it may be for the time to come,[b]
    forever, forever.
For it is a people of rebellion, deceitful children,
    children who are not willing to hear the instruction of Yahweh,
10 who say to those who do see, “You must not see!”
    and to the seers, “You must not see truth for us;
speak smooth things to us,
    see illusions,
11 turn aside from the way, turn aside from the path,
    put an end to the holy one of Israel from our face.”

12 Therefore the holy one of Israel says this:

“Because you are rejecting this word
    and you trust in oppression and cunning[c]
    and you rely on it,
13 therefore this iniquity shall come for you like a breach about to fall,
    bulging out on a high wall that breaks[d] suddenly, in an instant.
14 And he breaks it like a vessel of a potter[e] breaks,
    that is crushed; he has no compassion,
and no potsherd is found among its fragments[f] to take fire[g] from the hearth,
    or to skim[h] water from the cistern.”

15 For the Lord Yahweh, the holy one of Israel, said this:

“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    your strength shall be in quietness and in trust.”

But[i] you were not willing, 16 and you said,

“No! For we will flee on horses!”[j] Therefore you shall flee!
    And, “We will ride on swift horses!”[k] Therefore your pursuers shall be swift!
17 One thousand because of[l] a threat of one,
    because[m] of a threat of five you shall flee,
until you are left like a flagstaff on top[n] of a mountain,
    and like a signal on a hill.

John 16:1-4

Persecution of Disciples Predicted

16 “I have said these things to you so that you will not fall away. They will expel you from the synagogue,[a] but an hour is coming that everyone who kills you will think they are offering service to God. And they will do these things because they do not know the Father or me. But I have said these things to you so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you about them.

Jesus’ Departure and the Coming of the Holy Spirit

“And I have not said these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.
